Brent, Really interesting photos! The artist must have been a mathematician who loves spirals.

I did talk to the artist and asked if he did other designs besides circles. He showed me his cell photo with all kinds of other designs. I asked him how he gets the circles so parallel to each of the lines. What I got from him is basically "practice". I said to him "this isn't your first rodeo is it"!?!? He said "no"!

Very nice series here. What a great job this artist is doing here. Wonder how long it will last before it all washes away. Does he do this for fun or is he commissioned to do this?

Well randave2001, I didn't ask him if he did this for money. THe one I photographed I'm sure he did just for fun. As far as how long it will last, I asked him that and he said sometimes kids mess them up but most of the time it's the tide coming in that erases his artwork. While I was kayaking the tide was rising and when I got back to the beach, part of his artwork was being eliminated by Mother Nature. I showed these photos out of order but If you look at photo #5 you can see my kayak at the beginning of the artist's work with space between the circles and the waterline. In the first photo you can see that the tide has come in and part of his artwork had already started to be erased by Mother Nature.

I am amazed at the precision of the figures at that scale the artist is able to maintain doing them with no mechanical assistance. I can barely draw a precise circle on paper with a drafting compass!,

Stan

Stan, the artist has had years of practice. I think that helps a lot! lol

did you feel you had to ask his permission in order to take the photos?

No philo, I didn't feel I HAD to ask permission. I just did it out of courtesy and when I do that, I have never been turned down. He was in the public and legally, I think I could have taken the photos without his permission.

Wonderful job Brent. Very nice photographs of truly remarkable sand designs. The thing that strikes me is that these beautiful designs are created "by hand"...just sticks and rakes and a very precise eye. You can be proud of your work, and if you have any contact with the artist, please extend our appreciation to him, too. Hope you're having a great week. jak

thanks so very much jak. I have been trying to contact the artist by looking up things online. So far I am striking out. I will keep trying. Thanks for the kind compliments.
