Same here! I have been doing Xmas for over 50 years now, not counting my years in my parents' home. Kids are grown and gone and live far away, except for one who is usually working that day. Tired of our tree taking over our small living room, I traded in our big one for a 3-foot already-lit tabletop one. My collection of 200 angels stay in their box except for the 12 monthly ones and the nativity one.

Kids are not allowed to travel here for Christmas since I rolled my car one December on the icy snowy freeway. Skype calls have to suffice. We can't go because we heat with wood and our pipes would freeze.

Christmas is for when you have young children. When they stop believing in fairy tails its time to 'own up' and just use it as an excuse to spend time with relatives. We try to give party games, the more stupid the better....nothing like seeing adults arguing over who cheated who...! (that never changes).
Bet on New Years Day there is a holiday advert on TV......

Probably just by a couple of weeks considering that the day after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping day of the year.

Several years ago my (then) girlfriend and I drove to an Oregon coast town on black Friday morning. While in a tourist type store looking for gifts, the store was playing Christmas CDs. After the fourth Neil Diamond Christmas song (fifth song pIaying) I walked up to the counter. I asked, are you the owner of this store? Yes I am, can I help you? Yes, I would like to purchase that CD that is playing. I'm sorry, that is the only copy that I have, but you can probably find it at Fred Meyers. Well, you don't seem to understand, I want to buy the one in your player so that I don't have to listen to it 32 days before Christmas. After that, one of her employees whispered to me that they had been listening to the Christmas music for a week and were sick of it already. When we left without purchasing anything, there was not the usual "thanks for coming in " speal from the owner. Since then, if I go into a store playing Christmas music more than a week or two early, I turn around and walk out Get online and place an order.

I have noticed lots of people shopping at the Christmas displays in stores in my area, so apparently it works. If it puts people in a good mood, it's a good thing. Just sad that folks have forgotten that the holiday is NOT about Santa.

October, decorate for Halloween, November, decorate for Thanksgiving, day AFTER Thanksgiving, decorate for Christmas. We get way ahead of ourselves and grow tired of the holidays before they get here.

“Our” Home Depot had it’s Christmas section set up 2 weeks before Halloween and last night I noticed a house in our neighborhood all lit up.

I really like decorations...even some of the tacky variety...but this is way to soon.

Who cares if decorations are up. Have you seen what's on DISH? Christmas movies are all over!! And my wife has told me to clear off the DVR so she can record them!!! Until now, several Closer re-runs have been shown on Friday evenings. No longer. The time slot has been taken over by Christmas movies. Bad, saccarine, schmalzy, Christmas movies.

Holiday marketing techniques now trivialize what the holiday is meant to signify.

Too early. Wait until after Thanksgiving.
We have our house decorated before Thanksgiving (Working on it now) but don't light it up until Friday night after Thanksgiving because there are so many visitors from out of state with their local families for Thanksgiving waiting outside for the lighting.

One way to stop your aggrevation is to stop shopping until after Thanksgiving
