More than that you will have to upgrade to Flickr-Pro for $49.99 per year. It has some benefits but not
sure worth $50.00.

I won't pay. I spent an hour yesterday deleting 950 photos from flickr to be under the 1000 limit. I shoot film anyway, I only use flickr as an adjunct to that.

I don't use Flickr nor Instagram however considering subscribing to one or the other, strictly amateur, no professional work. Difference? Any Preference?

I really like the way your work is displayed on Flickr. To me they just look better.
I feel Instagram is a great location for iPhone shots and not so much for photography.
Just my opinion.

Thanks Jack, appreciate the recommendation/comment. And I doubt I'd ever have a 1000 photos posted at any given time, lordy, probably not even half that number

I have enjoyed looking at others photos. As far as I am concerned the quarterback is toast. See ya Flickr! Don't let the door hit you in the you know what on the way out.

Doesn't Shutterfly require purchasing books or prints or something?

I'm a Flickr Pro subscriber, and have been for some time. When I first started using Flickr it was when Yahoo! bought it and ended their own photo hosting tool (with a transition from one to the other provided). At that time, Flickr only allowed 200 photos in their free accounts and I already had way more than that to be hosted. The 1TB for free users was a relatively recent accommodation, BTW. At present I have just over 44,000 photos hosted on Flickr and I consider the subscription fee to be very reasonable. I like that others viewing my photos are not bothered by ads, and I like the hierarchical organization of my photos available there (photos in Albums, Albums in Collections, Collections in higher-level Collections, etc.)--it makes it lots easier for viewers to find what they want to see. $50/year is just about 14 cents/day and most folks waste that much without even thinking about it.

If one wants to keep their Flickr account, where and how do they pay? I did not see that in the SmugMug notification.

Thanks

I do have a SmugMug account. But that is for sales, etc. Until I have my Flickr images backed up, I intent to keep it.

Thanks

What website can you maintain for $50 per year?

I got the same email and am considering it. I didn't think 4.00 a month was too much and it ensures you won't run out of Flickr space. However, since Smugmug and Flickr are in the same family now think I will cancel my Smugmug account which I haven't used in such a very long time.
