My boys got haircuts today and I thought I would get some shots of them. Comments welcome. I really appreciate the advice I get on here. I think it really helps my photography. These were all taken handheld with natural light in my backyard. I need some new portraits of them and was hoping to get something printable. The two middle ones are my favorites.

Good looking boys! I like them all but #1 and #4 are my favorites.
It seems you've captured the personalities of each of them. The last one is the best composed of the group.

Thank you! I think #4 really shows his personality but I wasn't sure about the coloring on it. I'm glad you liked it.

Thank you. I really liked that one too. I'm glad to hear others liked it too. That one is really his personality.
I like #1 and #4 the most.

Thank you for looking and commenting. Those two see the be the going favorites.
Fantastic portraits-well done!
These are really l nice.
However, and this is only my opinion, the background appears brighter than your boys. On the first three, they could use a touch more contrast.

Thank you for commenting. These were minimally processed because my computer was being a jerk lol. I will try to work on them some more when I get a chance.
"...the background appears brighter than your boys..." this...
A viewer's eye is ALWAYS drawn to the brightest area of an image first...
Then to the area of sharpest focus (why folks buy & use fast glass)
maggiemae I would suggest you consider using a collapsable reflector for your outdoor portraiture...
i.e. Impact Collapsible Circular Reflector with Handles (52", Translucent)
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1274736-REG/impact_r2552_t_52_collapsible_circular_reflector.htmlThis is likely the your best (and cost effective) option for outdoor portraiture in sunlight...
Since it is both a reflector and translucent you can tame nearly every illumination scenario...
The translucent would have made the last image a standout since deep shadows and squinting eyes would be virtually eliminated.
I use this reflector often and it is seriously a "must have" for any commercial portrait photographer...
Since you have your "boys" to use as lighting assistants the world is your oyster...
Also there are countless videos on how to use reflectors to tame direct (and defused) sunlight)
Ok, the down side is folding this beast... Please consider getting an experienced photographer so show you how to do this since it is a major challenge but a cakewalk once mastered...
btw, if you would like me to post an example of it's use in portraiture just ask, k?
I do not feel comfortable about posting in another person's thread without their explicit approval...
Thank you for sharing...
I always enjoy reviewing your artistry... :)
Great photos! All of them!
