Hal did you happen to have a dream of eating a giant marshmallow?

I know it's not me because I never do anything wrong, so it must be the computers' fault. My home-made machine is finally working almost perfectly, but my old Dell desktop is acting up. It was working fine this morning, but when I woke it from hibernation or restarted it (I forget which), the monitor stayed in Sleep mode - amber light, rather than blue. Shutting down and restarting didn't help. The computer seems to be starting okay, and the cable is connected. I'll try another cable, but I think it's just being spiteful - getting ready for a real shocker tomorrow - Halloween!
I'm not looking for a solution here, just complaining, since that's always worked so well in the past.

Your Dell is jealous of the home made machine. Why do you like it better?
I have a 7-step approach to solving similar problems. Steps include yelling, swearing, throwing things, having a few glasses of wine....can't remember the other steps.

I hate "hibernation mode". By not doing a full reboot you will never be able to clear the memory of unused junk.
I know what you mean. I don't use it very often.
Problem solved! I replaced the cable, and it works fine. When this problem started, I removed and reattached the cable connections, but that didn't help. I guess the cable went bad just sitting there between morning and afternoon. Strange.
Jerry.....I had the exact same problem with my computer several days ago. Also a Dell unit. Everything seemed to be working, but nothing on the monitor. I was told the "video card"(in the tower) was probably out. Since it was old and had a few other problems,I now have a newer computer & it works great. Can't say for certain on the monitor as the old monitor was not compatible with the newer computer.
Get a Mac and forget all the troubles. With a Mac all it takes is operating the OFF / ON switch one full cycle

Except a Marine. A Marine will kill you.
I worked (as a civilian) at Camp Pendleton Marine Corp Base for a dozen years and none of the thousands of Marines there killed me or even attempted to. However, one did give me a stupid traffic ticket because I didn't have my seat belt on. Jarhead
Go Air Force!!

You must have had great camouflage.

Nope, no camouflage. I left that for the Marines. Just regular work cloths.
Did you forget and left your teeth in.

last time that happened to me was right after dreaming I was eating the worlds largest marshmallow.

With seven computers, not counting the old, broken ones, I guess I'm asking for trouble.
With seven computers it stands to reason your potential for computer problems is seven times greater than those with one computer.

I just heard recently that Congress is talking to people in The Pentagon about making the Air Force part of the U.S. Military. What an interesting concept that would be, huh?
Semper Fi Marines,
Don't forget November 10, 1775,
