I just watched the Sox win the world series and noticed (not just tonight, but any game I watch) that ALL of the cameras used are Canon. National Geographic also.
On the other hand whenever I see pictures taken in outer space the cameras are always Nikon. Just an observation. Red Sox-Yankees. Chevy-Ford. Canon-Nikon.
I do not know where you were looking but Nikon also had a presence. As for National Geo. Many of there best shoot Nikon.
Again, I am not sure how much you really know, but Nikon and Canon still dominate.

The Yankees will get ‘em next year, Chevy (Ford = Found On Road Dead), and Nikon/Canon.
I always thought that Ford stood for “First On Race Day”, I guess it depends on whether you drive a Ford or a Chevy.🎃🎃
Except yesterday it was First On Race Day. LOL!

Yep and I bet the lenses attached cost more than a Chevy and a Ford pickup combined! If the photogs are working for Sports Illustrated they may have a contract with Canon for preferential pricing and support, and the that may transfer to other sports news outlets - an industry vertical market. No technical reason why they would pick Canon over Nikon, sometimes it just comes down to $$$ and what the other Joe is doing. I've noticed at press conferences all types of cameras are used, but increasingly mirrorless - Sony. So a press conference 10 years from now may be very quiet :) I heard that the PGA is banning SLR types, favoring the quietness of mirrorless - of course at an MLB game quietness is not a factor, unless the Mets are playing .
See if I get this right

Canon's fluorite lens elements have problems going into space. While these lenses provide incredible advantages here on Earth, they tend to suffer damage during lift off.
I have owned Ford,Chev, Dodge, Toyota,Subaru & Mazda. All excellent. I have a Nikon. The very best photos I see on this site are from a hand held Canon 5sr, 300mm. Go SOX! B2B
