If you are an absolute beginner you have a very good eye for a photo. I like these and hope you will continue to post.

Great set of places I will probably never to get to in person. Keep posting pics of your travels around the Pacific.
Thanks to all; definitely a beginner tho, as I've no idea what a good eye means in this context and I have no clue why a photo is good or not so great (ie, whether the things many of you refer to (exposure, composition, etc) are right or not, in any photo. I only know what I like in a photo - what grabs me, moves me; and, what will help me remember the people & places I've been so lucky to see. All this is up to now though. In Japan, I went to a photo exhibition of B & W images of people in various poses. The effects of light, wow. It just plain blew me away; I'll keep taking pics as I travel, but I need to learn how to take pics that blow me away (and anyone else too, as a bonus!).

Good Eye means a natural sense of composition, sense of the light etc.
For most people a few simple rules of composition like rule of thirds, leading lines etc improve their pictures a lot. The next step(s) are using the colors and/or light as part of the composition. I had a professor (film days) who gave an assignment for each of us to duplicate an ad photo. After killing ourselves for a week he revealed that it was a battle we couldn't win because all the ads he gave us to pick for our project had been altered by an airbrush artist for the ad. The point of the assignment was to get us to "see the light" as we tried to duplicate the image - I and all the others produced results that were close but since we didn't know they were airbrushed we could not get it exactly the same. My ad was a men's cologne ad, after that I wouldn't even dream of ever trying that cologne, or their aftershave.
All very nice compositions. The color is almost too easy there because it really does look like that.
I miss living in Hawaii. Not quite as far south, but close enuf....
You're doing just fine, do post some more!
These are fantastic, doesn’t look like the work of a beginner to me!Keep up the good work and post more please!
