A friend suggested that I take a look at "Kath and Kim," a TV comedy from Australia. I find it very funny. The series is written by the actors who play the mother and daughter. It's available on Netflix, and I suggest you use closed captions to get the most out of it. The dialog is very fast, and some of the humor comes from the misuse of words. I suspect even native Aussies would benefit from CC.

There was both the TV series and a couple of movies, so be sure to start with TV.

A lot of good programming comes out of Australia. Netflix currently is streaming five seasons of Rake; a very funny Australian comedy.

I like Glitch, too. I haven't looked at Rake. I'll give it a try. And Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries.

I find both Australian and British TV shows/series far superior to what the networks produce here in America....subscribed to Acorn (under Amazon Prime) and really enjoy all the shows they have to offer

Funny that. I like British crime/murder mysteries. The odd one of ours is ok, but America goes way overboard in the acting. Very droll & arrogant. One tends to like what's over the fence, in preference to what we take for granted.
I'm not keen on seeing the Aussie acting, often over cooked, we see all day.
A great series I liked from Scotland, was Shetland. Great story line but no froth & bubbles.

Shetland was great and anticipating the newest season which should be out soon. In addition to Shetland, Foyles War was 5.0, a great series, one of the best I've seen in a while. Might consider Hinterland and Broadchurch, Dr Foster, all excellent series (imho). Some older ones are George Gently and my personal favorite (because of his acting) was Inspector Morse. Best Aussie series we've watch is the Brokenwood, hopefully new season coming soon....Cheers

Morse is top drawer, and its two offspring Lewis (Lewis - after the death of Morse) and Endeavour (young Morse) are worth a watch as well. But I liked SHETLAND a lot, closest we get to the dark Scandanavian mysteries. If you like SHETLAND, I'd give VERA some time as well.

I'm looking for The Questar tapes (see above post) at the moment. Seems timeless.

I’ll second that on Miss Fischer’s Murder Mysteries. The production values, costuming, props and sets for that series has to be some of the best I’ve seen for a TV series.

Wallender, everything is gray, absolutely everything. The sky, the water, the landscape in winter, the clothes, the hair, the cars, everything is gray. And just when you think it couldn't get more depressing.... Our favorite is on Acorn, The Brokenwood Mysteries. It's from New Zealand. Just murder mysteries. No deadbeat brothers, no drug addicted sisters, no former felon parents, none of that "human interest" nonsense that clutters American tv (we're looking at you Dick Wolfe).

Lots of my favorite British, Australian programs mentioned on this thread. I also like Death in Paradise and 800 Words. 800 Words is set in New Zealand and Australia. It is a comedy-drama-little bit soap.

We considered Britbox but stayed with Acorn since the majority of Britbox was more BBC and less independent TV series. Still a good choice for British TV though. There are some shows on both that we like but just stayed with Acorn, one is more than enough since there are so many shows on each one.

We love Miss Fischer's Murder Mysteries for all the reasons mentioned above. How about Keeping Up Appearances, or Father Brown in addition to Foyles War, our all time favorite. Death in Paradise is also appealing.
