On the Pest side of the Danube is a memorial to about 2000 Jewish Hungarians. They were murdered between December 1944 and January 1945. The shoes represent the point where they were shot and the bodies thrown in the Danube.

WOW, thank you...
And, as is custom, a pebble is left to denote a visitation.

We recently spent 4 days in Budapest. Budapest is a beautiful city. I hope you had time to explore it. Thanks for posting your photo. It took me back there again.

Outrage begets outrage. Most folks will think that the victims were murdered by Nazi Germans. Actually, it was fellow Hungarians who did the dead. Somber memorial in a beautiful city.

Yes, and Hungary is once again well on its way to neo-fascism and anti-semitism. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/long_reads/democracy-is-on-the-brink-in-hungary-so-why-is-no-one-talking-about-it-a7883876.html

Arrow Cross soldiers. Arrow Cross was a Hungarian far right wing group backed by the Nazi's. Same ideology as the Nazi's, might as well be called Nazi's.

While a far Right agenda in Hungary might seem extreme, the far Left agenda promoted by George Soros is equally distasteful. Sadly, it is the common citizen that is caught in the middle paying the price for the ambitions of leaders of both unhealthy extremes. Such is the nature of man.

No, we should always remember. We can't because it seems everyday some moron compares someone to Hitler.

The rest of the story is that the murderers were Hungarians not Germans. They tied two people together so that they only had to shoot one, thus saving a bullet. When the shooting victim fell into the Danube, they took their partner with them to drown.

I was going to comment that there will always be one who would say that the event never happened.

Here is one who convolutes the tragedy to fit his bias.

It was no "agenda" that killed those people. It was done by bigots who decided that this was the only way to win.

It is a greater tragedy to denigrate the monument put up to remember the victims.

__________

A great set of photographs of a very sad somber event memorial.
