Adorama has done well by me, Their rating on used was conservative, products were "like new". Ebay ratings are in the eye of the seller, YMMV..... and if they offer no return/no warranty - like mlieber507 said, can be "iffy". Good luck in your quest.

Wanting to buy a used/reconditioned Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for my Nikon D7200.

Other than on Ebay, I only find this lens used on Adorama. I have purchased used from KEH in the past and was very pleased in the purchase (I believe their used ratings are conservative and what I received was better than expected).

Adorama rating on this available lens (only one available) is “Excellent Minus” which is described as: “Shows signs of moderate wear and/or usage. Unit body may have surface scratches.”

The price is $419 as compared to $569 new.

Any UHH folk here who have purchased used lenses from Adorama and can share their “quality confidence” in their ratings? I am all for saving money, but also want to be happy. I know there is a decent return policy, so that helps if I am not pleased. Just not sure my trust is as high as it is with KEH (based only on never having dealt with them on used equipment).

Also, EBay pricing on this lens model (used) is higher than the Adorama price. Don’t know if that means anything.

I purchased all my 2 Nikon DSLRs and lenses (Used/ new) from Adorama all those years. no problem at all. They sell what they advertised!

B&H has this same lens used in condition code 8+ which translates into "Shows moderate wear or finish marks" in their used lens section. I have not bought a used lens from Adorama previously but I have bought used from B&H and they have always been conservative on their ratings and delivered exactly what they advertise at a fair and reasonable price. The B&H lens of interest is being sold for the same price as quoted in your posting. If you can entertain an alternate suggestion you may want to consider the Nikon AF Micro-NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8D Lens which is being sold by B&H brand new for $517. I have and use this lens extensively. The difference between this lens and the Nikon 105mm macro lens is to get full 100% reproduction on the sensor you need to get to the minimum focusing distance of 8.66" as opposed to ~12" for the 105mm Nikon which retails for $897. Both good lenses, but for a little over 3" I prefer the $380 savings of the 60mm macro.

Why not a used Nikon 105mm f2.8 Micro Nikkor?

An used equipment from Adorama that I have purchased has literally been as good as new and was tested by them to assure it. I received a battery grip from them that had a problem and they speedily made good on it. Extremely highly recommended!

I bought a used lens a while back from Adorama and it was great. They advertised excellent plus condition but it was closer to mint condition. You cannot go wrong if you stick with Adorama, B and H, and KEH.

You don't mention B&H... Check them out also.... Also, for the difference, I would buy new.

If I were you I would purchase the lens - while you are waiting around for answers someone else could very easily buy the lens and then you’ll have to either go for a new one or wait until one of the trusted dealers (Cameta, B&H, Adorama or KEH) again has a suitable one - and then whole issue just repeats itself. Unless there is a restocking fee charged on returns you really have no risk.

Ive been buying both new and used from Adorama, mostly, and B&H for over 15 years. I highly recommend either one. I have no data to support this but it seems as Adorama may ship a little faster. Ive never purchased anything from KEH (yet) but based on the reviews I've seen, including the ones on UHH, I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them either.

I don't like the description that accompanies this particular lens. I would be patient and find a lens with a higher rating, or pay the extra $150 for a brand new one in the box with the factory warranty . Sounds like "excellent minus" means the lens works great but it may be scratched up. If that doesn't bother you, buy it. You can always return it if you don't like what you see when you get it.

I guess another spin to this is, what's a warranty worth if you purchased a brand new lens.

Second opinion: The optically superior Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Nikon at half the price

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/393446-REG/Tokina_ATXAF100PRON_100mm_f_2_8_AT_X_M100.html

https://www.dxomark.com/Lenses/Tokina/Tokina-AT-X-M100-AF-PRO-D-AF-100mm-F28-Nikon

this optic is amazing on a D7200... and one of the very precious few third party lens that I use...

Hope this helps frjeff or is at least food for thought...
I wish you well on your journey...

frjeff No matter what you buy and or from whom, new or used you can't go wrong Adorama or B&H.. I have bought new, used and refurb for only 10 years from both and have never been disapointed.
