Located between the Luberon hills and the beautiful Monts de Vaucluse, it sparkles with ochre colors. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in France, It is unique. It is situated in the heart of the biggest ochre deposits in the world and displays a wide range of natural colors. It had been the towns' building material from its' start and you can see the beautiful natural pigments used throughout the village. A real treat is to pick up some wine, cheese and crusty bread and visit the cliffs for a picnic with a view.

Nice shots! If I were a geologist, I'd be all over those bare cliffs!

Thanks for looking and commenting Treepusher, you might have a pretty tough climb, some of those faces are quite sheer. Glad glad you liked the pix, appreciate it.

Nice shots Marsdad.
Thanks for highlighting a beautiful area that is not well known here in the States. We spent a couple of days in the Vaucluse a few years ago and visited colorful Roussillion and Fountain de Vaucluse; L'Isle-Sur-La-Sorge (the Venice of France); nearby Gordes with its stone 'Bories'; and the iconic Abbaye Notre Dame du Senanque. The area is particularly famous for its lavender fields. Historic Avignon (former Papal Seat) and the famous Roman aqueduct at Pont du Gard are only an hour away. A dream area for photographers.
Thanks again.

Years ago ochre was actively mined at Roussillion. The whole region is a great place to visit. Great post.
