Apple's Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader: Question Does it work?

Hi, I just received Apple card reader, took the card out of my 70D (SanDisk Extreme 64GB 90mb SDHC V30) placed it in the reader, attached it to Ipad Pro 10.5 and got nothing. So I contacted Apple tech support, I wanted to know if the unit was defective or if I need to set something on the Ipad Pro. He asked me to try another card, so I took the card out of the 5DM4 (SanDisk Extreme 64GB 95mb SDXC V30) plugged it in and the Raw pictures showed up. So the tech said, its probably something on the first that would not allow the program to work, I then reformated the card and took some pictures and it still did not work. Next, I formatted the card in the 5DM4, took some pictures and it did not work. So I thought it might be in the file system (exFAT vs FAT32) when tested with other cards with different file systems it still did not work. So I contacted Amazon and requested a replacement. My thoughts: the unit only works with Extreme Pro card, but all cards I tested on this unit could be read by other devices, e.g., desktop reader, laptop reader, and camera; Google search shows some concerns not directly related to my problem (stop importing after 150 pictures); YouTude reviews are all positive. Does anyone have any feedback on this issue?

I have been trying to figure out the same problem for quite a while. Would be interested in hearing an answer if anyone has one.

I upgraded to the IPad Pro last year and have never had an issue with any of the SandDisk cards used. I have just recently changed to the Extreme Pro Cards and no problem experienced. Hope you get it sorted.

One of our security cameras is needing to be replaced and looking at those listed for sale at this time there was one that had instructions to not use SandDisk cards. Just passed over that one and don't remember which one but am looking at the fine print for that same cautionary statement on the spec sheets on all others being considered.

It should work with all SD cards, not just pro ones. Mine does anyway. I've never had a problem with it. I would suggest though, if speed isn't an issue, other companies such as Leef and many others make their own similar unit using their own app. You would have more flexibility, if needed, as you can use them to write to an SD card, and even back up your device to a card. Just an idea.

Can you provide a little more detail on "... download direct from my camera". Thanks

I have the same FireWire to SD reader and had the same problem until I made certain that when the reader was inserted into the FireWire port that the small page symbol was visible or up; this solved my problem.

I have been using one of Apples card readers since my iPhone 6 and it works great. Have used it for a Canon p&s, various Nikon and now Fujifilm. No problems.

I have used the lightning card reader with all kinds of cards and both my iPad mini and iPad. Have never had any problem. Perhaps the reader is defective

Yesterday I downloaded a 4 minute video to my iPad Pro, from a micro sd card in a SD adapter. No problems with the Apple - lightening card reader.
