Free Canon camera, lenses, etc.
As my first venture into DSLRs, I have an ancient Canon Digital Rebel EOS 300D that the Smithsonian might be interested in but still works just fine. It came with Canon's standard 18 - 55mm lens and I purchased a Quantaray 18 - 200mm F3.5 - 6.3 zoom lens. This was Ritz Camera's house brand and it takes really nice sharp pictures. A UHH thread said these were actually very good lenses, made by Zeiss, but I can't confirm that.
I also have a carry bag, battery charger and the typical paraphernalia a new camera comes with.
The camera might be good for someone who never handled a DSLR and wants to give it a try. As I said, the lens is very good and might complement someone's fleet of lenses.
I'll send this to anyone at no cost as long as they pay shipping which I would imagine would run under $10.00. I'm seeking to find a home for it because I switched to Nikon gear.

Quantaray lenses were made by Sigma!

Quantaray lenses were never "very good" and were NEVER made by Zeiss! Quantaray was indeed the store brand of Ritz camera and were all built on contract from whoever would manufacture them for the lowest price. Pretty much EVERY third party lens manufacturer built lenses with the Quantaray name on them over the years.
I have about a half dozen Hoggers who are interested and I contacted the first to respond. They haven't replied and if they don't, I'll move on to the next in line so sit tight and thanks for the interest.

That was always my impression of Quantaray lenses.

I had a quantaray 500 mm mirror lens that was actually pretty good for what it was. I had a lot of fun with that lens.

Jeez, I'm glad to hear someone else had good results from a Quantaray. I didn't know diddly about lenses when I first got into DSLRs and trusted my local camera store which, in this case, was Ritz. I'm sure Ritz purchased from the low bid manufacturer but someone above mentioned that might have been Sigma, for at least one contract. Whether it was made by Sigma or some company that made cheap toy telescopes I got good results from mine. I've posted several photos here and no one complained they were even a little soft. Of course...now that I'm so much older and wiser...I stick with Nikon lenses!
Can't get rid of mine without severe repercussions from the wife as it was a very expensive Xmas gift in 2003. It has never been repaired and continues to take good shots if I do not use the 18-55 kit lens. Always nice to re-visit the past to appreciate the newer models.
Regarding Quantaray lenses. I have an older 19-35 f/3.5-4.5 that looks identical to the Tokina version. Don't know who made and don't care. Have no idea if the elements are different but I have used it occasionally for weddings with good results.
I would like it for my granddaughter. thanks
