Yes! Great singer. I have several of her CDs, and they've been selling well throughout the years. I have a Vera Lynn channel on Pandora that I listen to occasionally.

Vera Lynn was an artist/singer who performed for the troops during WWII and was extremely popular with the UK.
She turned 101 years of age in March and is estimated to be worth approximately $150 million dollars.
I listened to the song VERA on the Album The Wall by Pink Floyd many times not knowing Vera Lynn was a real person.
I guess this puts the question asked by Pink FLoyd to rest.... "Vera, Vera, what has become of you?"

After taking care of my mother for several years before her death. I had to play that song Vera.
I still love that song, and miss the finest women I ever knew.
I once heard the hardest commandment for some to follow is...."Thou shalt honor thy mother and thy father."

She was before my time but I remember my Mom & Dad, aunts, uncles being very fond of her because of them I was introduced to her music. I have a number of her songs in my library.

Always interesting to hear the backstory of some classic songs, especially from a time when the lyrics actually meant something and were sung in a manner that you could understand them!

I was playing that song on the stereo and my wife mentioned that “Vera” is Latin for “truth”. I guess most people know that, but I didn’t, and I suspect Roger Waters was using this aspect in the subtext.

Vera Lynn was a singer in WWII(Active singing to this day or at least till she was around 100)
Now Vera Lynn's parents may have named her Vera for Latin.
I had an Aunt named Vera...Very common old name....From latin
Much of the Wall is about War. ie.

Mother -- Mother do you think they'll drop the bomb.
Good bye Blue sky. -- Look Mommy there is plane up in the sky. Did you hear the frightened ones did you hear the falling bombs.....
Bring the boys back home.

Many of the songs had no notable ties to(War)what appeared to be WWII

Comfortably Numb .. One of my Turns... Hey you... Young lust.......

Most of The Wall seemed to continue the theme of Dark Side of the Moon which had themes that stress us humans out or cause some type of turmoil . Waters has said as much in an interview on Youtube. This was especially evident in Dark side of the Moon.

Some of the set list from Dark Side of the Moon.
Money,
Brain Damage,
On the Run
Time
Us and Them,
Careful with that Axe, Eugene.

The Axe was used in The Wall in One of my Turns.

Some Stressful or drama event songs on The wall.
Young Lust
The Thin Ice
Empty Spaces
Nobody Home
The show must go on.
Don't leave me now.
Comfortably Numb
One of my Turns.
Is there anybody out there?

I personally consider these albums, three of which were by Pink Floyd, to be the best produced albums of all time. (I am biased...I love Pink Floyd.)
1) Dark side of the Moon
2) The Wall.
3) Wish You Were Here.
4) I Robot. (This was Alan Parsons who incidentally did much of the Synth stuff for Dark Side of the Moon.)

"The band is just fantastic. That is really what I think. By the way, which one's Pink?"

There are quite a number of interesting 'bits' to the music and lyrics of Floyd. Lyrically, the song "When The Tigers Broke Free" may be the most powerful and painful lyrics in 'rock' music of which I am aware, and as it is with Vera Lynn, the lyrics cite WWII. Off the war motif, my personal favorite tidbit, likely due to my lifelong love of George Carlin, is that the first voice heard in the lead-in of Speak to Me / Breathe says "I've been mad for fucking years." I always have a giggle when I hear it, because I know my whole home town would have been deeply outraged to hear that back in '73.

Only addressing your album list, I have to agree on each of the Floyd's, though the other is unknown to me. My list, though, would have to include the 3 album stretch from the Beatles, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Pepper, as these 3 broke SO much new ground musically, and Sir George Martin was a genius in his own rite.

Roger's father was killed in the war, Roger never knew him. He visited his grave fairly recently with his family. His father was Eric Fletcher Waters. The Fletcher Memorial Home for incurable tyrants and kings. from the Final Cut.

“Vera, Vera,
What has become of you?
Does anybody else in here
Feel the way I do?”

These are the lyrics I wonder if Waters is using as a subtext, in addition to the main theme of the singer and the war. Sort of his general take on life.

Waters was a pretty brilliant but sometimes troubled lyricist who never got over the down spiral of his friend Syd or his perception of the corruption in the music business.

Like you I am a lifelong fan of the Floydsters.

I know he still warmer than room temperature but I didn’t know he’s still putting out material.
