Appears to be a longlines fishing boat registered under the Australian flag.

Great pictures of the vessel. I have never seen one like that in my travels either. Interesting to say the least.

Earl, ship's registration number (FB44241Q) identifies it as the DD, a longline fishing vessel with Australian registry.

It's "hellaboat"...… interesting catamaran, and very nice shots!

I saw a similar one in Fiji. The front dropped down onto the beach for unloading vehicles and such on/off the island. I'm not sure about this one but it does appear to have "claws" to hold it on a beach.

With the 2 large, heavy duty latches on the front ...... I wonder if it is meant to push barges .... I entered the city you mentioned in Australia into Google maps .... and there is a large river (Clarence River) going thru that city.

Catamarans (double hull) are much more stable in rough waters.

Looks more like a work boat than a gin palace

Thank you all for your comments, which I appreciate very much. ArtBob has a good point--if you would have read the other comments before commenting yourself, you would have seen his comment & link which gives a full description & history of the boat. Earl.

Nice shots Earl. It looks like it would be very stable.

Nice shots, Earl! Looks hi-tech to me. I've never seen a fishing boat that looks like that one.
