O K, the Epson xp-8500 is out. Suggest a good photo printer, not for Pro photos, just family and photos in general for $250?---thanks--George

Canon, most models will do the job you describe. The mid price range has features that make it easier to print, like more than one paper tray and multiple ink tanks. prices from $89. I have tried other brands with success printing everything but pictures. For me I used Canon for pictures for many years.

Put some of your shots on a thumb drive and take with you to the store. Ask to use your pics instead of the demo one they print out to test the quality of the printer. You're going to be printing your pics, not the one that they have for demo which has been optimized for that. If store won't let you, then go elsewhere.

I have had several Canon printers and every one of them gave me beautiful prints. Set your budget and then pick one, I don't think you can go wrong.

I am usually a big cheerleader for Epson, but read this carefully: https://epson.com/For-Home/Printers/Photo/Expression-Photo-XP-8500-Small-in-One-All-in-One-Printer/p/C11CG17201

Epson got tired of people complaining that third party inks clogged the heads (and losing profitable ink sales to third parties), so they now have electronic means of keeping third party inks out of their machines.

The clogging problem with third party inks is real. My wife clogged several Epson office printers with "strip mall refill store" inks. The last one worked for four years on genuine Epson ink. They were all the same model. At the photo lab where I had a high end Epson (44" wide 9600), it ran fine until we tried third party inks. Head replacement was expensive...

As this 6-color XP-8500 printer is priced close to the 8-color Canon Pro-100, and both are dye ink printers, I would probably give the nod to Canon in this price range. It gets rave reviews here and elsewhere, and is sometimes available in a promotional package with a rebate that ultimately lowers the price below $150.

If you want the maximum possible quality and print longevity, the Epson P-Series printers use pigment-based inks that last about twice as long (over 200 years in dark storage, about half that under glass in normal room light).

Look seriously at HP Office jet Pro models, mine is an 8710. I signed up for their ink supply program and have been absolutely happy as a hog in mud. I have never ran out of ink, my cost is approx. $9.00/month with unlimited unlimited use. I don't shop for it, they communicate with my printer and send it before I need it. You just can't beat it!

I had the #8610 ("Had"; I has adult kids and live with their mom) and I was very happy with the idea of an all in one on the desk. I still have me old HP lLserjetII- ALWAYS laser quality, never breaks down, and I can rebuild it (fuser and rolls) for @$150. Then again, Staples has the #8710 on sale now for @ $120. Lookin good to me ...

I like large prints so I picked a 13 X 19 format Epson. I went with the Workforce 7710. A bit more than you may need but it's and all in one printer with Fax, Duplicator and Scanner.

Don't forget Costco. You can't afford their printer. Their results and your satisfaction guaranteed. Great price.
