I collected a handful of seeds a couple of years ago. I didn't really know much about the plant, but went ahead and sowed them in the Spring. I think every seed germinated, and now there is a big patch and hundreds of blossoms. It is spreading by rhizomes. It is very sandy where I started them. I have kept the area mulched and I water it when it gets really dry, but they are pretty easy to grow. I do think they would do better if they weren't in full sun.

http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Hemaris-thysbeDonna, I've never cared much for the Hummingbird Moth pics posted here. Then you came along and BAM!. What beautiful shots you have. You really have the knack.
If you could bottle the knack up and sell it, you'd be a very rich woman.

http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Hemaris-thysbeExquisite photos of an exquisite creature! I'm not sure I have ever had an opportunity to use that word twice in the same sentence but it is the correct word, I looked it up. Those transparent/translucent wings are perfactly caught. This is field guide quality work and that is ment is a high compliment. Thanks for the link, the Hummingbird Clearwing Moth is someone to know!
edit: I just carefully looked at all of the photos in your link, your photos are superior!
Beautiful shots, Donna. I've never seen them around here with that color. Ours have hot pink on them.
