My plants are somewhat bedraggled this time of year. Summer heat and rains take a toll but fall will bring rejuvenation. I discovered that a closer look discovers the beauty that is still there!

Beautiful images, by the way.

Yes, the first one is a Salvia (Family: Lamiaceae),

The second image there also of the Family Lamiaceae (Mint) but a different Genus and species.

All rather lovely, the four there, especially the first two. It is interesting how my seasons in (Southern) California with its Mediterranean Climate was rainy mild Winters yet long dry hot Summers. We have a lot of dead or dry plants and flowers during the Summer and Fall.

Yes, "If your pictures are not good enough you were not close enough."

I'm glad you enjoyed these. When we pay close attention to nature it is very revealing. If you don't garden, you may not realize the impact of the changing seasons. If you don't watch and study wildlife, you miss many of the most interesting behaviors. I think photography makes us all better observers!

The colors and details on these are great Carol.
The 1st one is my favorite.
I have to agree what you said about photographers. I think we look at things a little differently than most people.

Well done. There is a lot to be said about getting closer to your subject (within reason). Too close and you start to lose DOF. vz

Thank you! It is a special plant for me. I got it a couple of years ago and photographed it extensively before planting. It continues to be a pleasure in the garden.

Thank you, Will! I know spending more time on photography in retirement has really enhanced my enjoyment of nature!
