The Sirui tripod I sold was this model...Not a bad model but as I said, it's specs were not better than my 3LT (which I also had won). On the plus side, the Sirui does cost a lot less...

I am looking for some recommendations. I do have a tripod head that I like and can use with a travel tripod.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Any tripod decision is a compromise. Not knowing what camera and lenses you are using and how you will be using them makes it impossible to provide a meaningful point of view. For instance, if you plan on taking a macro lens for 1:2 to 1:1 work, you had better take something sturdy - which would rule out most "travel" tripods. If you are shooting landscapes with normal and wider lenses, then almost any tripod will do.

Aluminum is always a)cheaper and b)heavier than carbon fiber for the same amount of stability.

I use a Feisol CT3442 as a travel tripod - 2.5 lbs, 28mm first tube diameter, collapses to 19" and fits in carry-on luggage. I find it pretty decent for macro and up to a 300mm lens if you exercise good technique.

Macro is my niche and other than studio stacking, I seldom use a tripod

Hi Roni, I have a Gitzo for home and a Benro for travel. I would not get anything without reading the reviews on B+H.
Here is one that folds to 14" and holds 30lbs.

I use my luggage for the tripod but keep the ball head in my carry on.
You can take me with you and I'll carry you tripod.

One more that looks interesting: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1265738-REG/flm_32_26_907_centerpod_travel_carbon_39_140.html

It has been my experience that buying the right tripod requires trip to a photo store to try them out. For me buying a tripod is a lot like buying shoes, I have to try them on and walk around a little until I find the right fit.
With that said Benro makes great tripods for a good price. They also make carbon travel tripods. B&H and others carry the full line. You can also go to Benro.com. I believe they are offering a 25% discount on any online orders until October 15th with the code survey25.

My son and I use a MeFoto that folds to about 13" and comes in a bag. It has four leg segments, which is not a plus, but it works well.

John, I do the same, putting my tripod in the checked bag and the ball head in my carry on.
I am trying to go lighter, so I am taking a smaller checked bag and my tripod doesn't fit.

Hey you can come and carry my tripod anytime!!!!

I have one of these. Works fine. I do not use a large Ellie photo lens with it though.

Take a look at MeFoto and Sirui. I have both and both fit easily into my carry on! Also, they’re not a PITA to carry around, especially the Sirui.

I just got the Mefoto Globetrotter in carbon fiber. Very well designed. Light. Will fit inside my roll-on suitcase, has a 5 year warranty. One of the legs will unscrew and attach to the center column to become a monopod. Highly recommend.

There are so many tripods for sale that can fit the bill. I use a cheap aluminum Dolica Proline tripod that I bought for $45. It extends enough that shooting with it is comfortable. Weights around 3 lbs. and with good tripod techniques it is steady enough. I have used my heavy dSLR cameras with it without issues.
I have several tripods, including a heavy Gitzo and this Dolica is the one that goes with me when I travel.

I like the Vanguard VEO 235. It is small, and light, holds a good amount of weight, and comes with a case w/shoulder strap. Here's the B&H link https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1123595-REG/vanguard_veo_235ab_aluminum_tripod.html. For tabletop, I like the Ultrapod II. It fits in a jacket pocket or a pocketbook, holds a good amount of weight, and is quite stable. Here's the B&H link https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/239963-REG/Ultrapod_PD02010_2_Black.html?sts=pi. Both are durable and reasonably priced (you might even find a better price than B&H).

I have a Benro Travel Angel II in carbon fiber. Light weight, sturdy and tough. It has fallen off of a jeep doing 50 MPH with nothing more than cosmetic damage.

The you will be trading off weight savings (1-2 lb) vs decreased stability and increased cost. Is it worth it?
