You have been elected? Do you mean, they selected you without your consent?
With all due respect, if you are asking what lens to use for an event you better let someone else do the job.

Based on your lenses you'll definitely need your flash, both are what would be considered relatively slow lenses in the f/3.5 - 5.6 range, not ideal for shooting indoors. At the very least get yourself a mounting bracket to get the flash off the top of the camera and a diffuser/softbox cover for it. You'll be bouncing the light most of the time, the attachments that came with your speedlight will also help in this regard, depending on the ceiling and walls and their color. If you've got the funds get yourself a faster mid-range zoom (f/2.8) or prime 35/50mm 1.8 if you intend some lower light type shots.

Otherwise as suggested, beg off and don't do it as you clearly don't have a bunch of experience in this area based on the question you first posed. If you do decide to move forward with the shoot, good luck and I hope it turns out well.

I was elected to shoot a 50th wedding anniversary at a Holiday Inn banquet room. I will be using my Nikon D500 and also A 910speedlight if needed. Can I get some advice of what would be the best lens to use.
Thanks for the help.

You'll want a reasonably fast lens, like the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8, which is the best (IMHO) medium wide angle zoom for low light conditions and a Dx camera. You'll need some sort of flash diffuser like the Gary Fong Lightsphere to achieve bounce flash that won't produce harsh direct flash images. Failing that, take a white #10 business envelope, tilt the speedlight head up and attach to the side facing the camera with a rubber band. Direct flash is harsh, produces red eye and makes everybody look like they're at a crime scene. Bounce flash will soften and provide flattering light.

Bring extra batteries for everything.

Ask the Couple if there are any particular shots they would like to have. If there are any special moments, cutting the cake, the 50th anniversary kiss, etc DON'T MISS THOSE. Make sure you GET A SHOT Of EVERY COUPLE/PERSON WHO ATTENDED.

But, if you really want to do a stellar job, hire a Professional. Make it your Anniversary gift, sit back and enjoy yourself. When we were married, 41 years ago, the Mother In Laws "boyfriend" was going to take the photos. They had a major fight the night before and consequently, we only got 1 or 2 usable prints out of 2 rolls of film. Lesson learned, hire a Pro.
You'll want a reasonably fast lens, like the Sigma... (show quote)

Great advice here!! - all the way through!!

50th requires The Nifty Fifty! 50mm prime 1.4 or 1.8. Either will do.

You were "elected"? Do you feel competent to do this at all, as the "official" photographer? If you need advice as basic as this, maybe you aren't.
Any zoom lens covering wide-to-medium telephotos would surely work.

That first remark seems inappropriate to me. I gather that the gentleman is a friend and will work pro bono and not for hire. Here in the US, the term "elected" denotes that he is shooting as a favor to friends. He is asking us for advice, and you then gave him some I think he can work with..... 73... ~jessM

Thank you you are right. I took some photos at my high school reunion and they loved my photos. I told them I only did this as a hobbie and not professionally. One of the attendees wanted to know if I would do her 50Th wedding anniversary so I said I would do it.

Everything you said points toward taking those shots and having a good time. You'll become famous, and all your friends will ask for *free* service. I agree that a good zoom lens would help a lot as would a good digital camera, a flash with diffuser, and enough storage for 500 or more images -- most of which you will toss out before the "victims" see 'em. Why don't you list your equipment on hand -- camera; lens; software; and anything else you'd like to mention. Then invite further suggestions. But remember the old military adage about opinions: "Everybody's got one.... etc." So, prepare to ignore many...………. :-) ………… 73.... ~jessM, at 0530 EDT
PS: Don't forget post-processing, but don't spend lots of funds on that.... unless you wish to become addicted... :)
PPS: There are people who do post-processing and printing for hire, but, they'll expect to be paid.
