Old is relative.

My first camera of any consequence was an F2 a couple of years later ('73). I bought it and a 70-200mm for a trip to Nova Scotia and promptly dropped it 20 feet on the rocks.
After I climbed down to retrieve it, it worked perfectly-probably still does (although its been replaced a few times over years).

This is not my first camera but it is the first one I ever bought myself back in 1971 and I took this picture of it a few minutes ago with my Iphone 7plus to be able to post it here. I have had a few of these over the years but this is the actual original camera that I started out with. I was eighteen and went with my dad to the local camera store and told the owner that I wanted a camera that would make me happy and I would not regret buying and this is what he put on the counter. A Nikon F body, FTN meter, and a F2 50mm lens and I can say that I have never been let down by this camera and it looks and operates as good today as when I bought it back in 1971.

What was your first camera to purchase.
This is not my first camera but it is the first on... (show quote)

Yep, that same camera was my first "real" camera. I was seventeen and bought it in Tokyo when I was in Japan for the Boy Scout World Jamboree in August 1971. Before that, I had a Kodak Hawkeye (used 127 film) and a cheap Polaroid made of plastic (don't remember model info). I still have my Nikon F.

Oh, the wonderful memories.

Yes, I'm old but can still hold my Nikon DSLRs steady and no VR.

Mine was a Nikon S2 (rangefinder) back in the 50's. All of its "predecessors were either gifts, or "hand me downs".

The first camera I ever purchased was one of those Kodak point and shoots, but had the "panorama" setting. When you sent the film off, you'd get back this 4" tall x 16" (or so) photo. It was so cool to get those. I took panoramas of things that made no sense, just so I could see what it looked like when I got the photo back. I still have several rolls of film for it, and I'm pretty sure I still have the photos somewhere too. I do not have the camera anymore, but I don't miss it. I've had several models of digital point and shoots (Sony, Samsung), but the first ILC I purchased was a Nikon D3200 (the red one, like Iron Man). I've since graduated to my current D750, and I absolutely love it.

My first 35 mm was a Argus C3, the first SLR was a Canon F-T QL (I think) Still have it somewhere. Used for years until it started having mirror sticking problems. It was reconditioned. I thought it was a F-L QL but could not find that model in the Canon museum site. Mostly shot slides with it.

It was a Kodak Brownie box camera. Bought it with borrowed money from dad. Probably in the late 1940's. Had to pay him back, and back, and back.

Yes, Canon made an FT-QL. (Quick Load)
My FTb has the QL feature, it was nice. I usually got 1-2 extra slides (images) because of the QL.

Haver the same model camera grandpaw along with a 35mm Nikomat. Some business associates were coming to the U.S from Japan and they brought them to me. Ran some B&W film thru the Nikomat a few months ago, still works fine.

Koni Omega Rapid M for me. I was a sophomore in high school, ca 1969. Soon after, bought a Honeywell 770 Strobonar, then, the Koni Omega 180mm lens, an extra magazine & traded the 770 for a Honeywell 880 that used a 510v battery.

I got one in front of me in almost perfect condition. Original leather case, and the Yashica adapter lenses.
That's the "Peter Parker camera" from Spiderman. I think the second one.

I have a roll of film in it. Have to admit, it ain't the most fun camera to shoot with.

Practical LTL in 1973 with the 50mm lens. Shutter broke in the first, it was replaced under warranty ( the whole camera). Sold it to my brother in the late seventies and he used it until the early 2000’s before he put it away. It is still in working order.
