Almost.... A great football picture
I shot this and got up and cut the top of his helmet. if I raised the lens up then I would be very happy.. Thoughts??
It is still a great photo even without the top of the helmet.

I counted 7 players on this photo. Action sports photos can be somewhat difficult. The main action is on the tackle implemented. You got that. If this was an individual portrait, then chopping off heads would not be permissible. I like the photo. Next time you'll do better. Because of this photo. Keep practicing.
I'd take the tackler, but the focus is not him, rather #50 on the ground facing away. What focus mode are you using?
I was in A1 Servo Focus Mode. I always use this mode in football. Is this not to be done?

Sorry, my question was meant to ask about the AF "area" configuration, such as 'zone' or 'large zone' available on the 7DII. The AI Servo case selection also should be considered although it can be a mystery and probably best left to personal choice. I asked because the runner was the center of the action, as the humans would see the play, but the camera was focused more toward the side of the play. So I wondered the setting. Another possibility is the camera's thinking was influenced by events prior to this frame.
I see. I can never get The focusing squares where I want them. I try alot of zones but I will keep trying. Thank you for your help

I don't don't have a 7DII, so I can't speak from direct experience. But, I do have plenty of experience at sports and birds in flight using the smaller zone config on my 5DIII. When next out, you might continue to practice, either with the expanded zone, that appears to be 1/3 of the frame, or the 15-point group of the more traditional zone, either around the center point or moved between the top center and the top left and top right. I don't think these will be magically better, but they will tell the camera: just focus here. The photographer still has to follow and anticipate the action for the camera to do its portion of the magic.
I checked and I was using the 65 points and I switched to the 21 points
