You can always purchase a blimp. But that limits which lens you can use. It also prevents easy adjustments of some settings.

Is it just me or do other people find the noise from a digital camera annoying? I have muted my camera. Animals and birds are no longer startled when I take their photos. I can take photos at a wedding - even during the "I do" - and there is just the "I do" with no loud, distracting and annoying "Ka-Lunk!" (I also use natural lighting; not flash.) The birds and animals continue what they do naturally rather than stare at the camera or leave the scene. Even my ancient 35mm cameras didn't make as much noise as some of the digital cameras that are used these days.

Shhhh. I enjoy the silence.

Yes, that can be a problem. I used to take still shots of plays put on by a local playhouse - until one audience member complained about the "noise." There were people coughing, the A/C going on and off, and traffic driving by, but he was bothered by the clicking of my camera.

You have two choices: use a non-DSLR; muffle your DSLR with a product or DIY.

Or.....you could shoot in a vacuum! Sound doesn't travel in a vacuum.

But. Be sure to hold your breath before you go in!

Yeah, but not too many people are shooting movies in a vacuum.

I remember in the old film days when you wanted a quiet camera for street photography we bought the Leica M or R series cameras whisper with they were.

I seem to recall that several years ago Ford (?) built a car where the doors didn't make noise when you closed them. The public really didn't like the quiet doors and Ford had to go back to noisy doors. I've had a hybrid car for several years and it is still somewhat disconcerting to be sitting at a stop light and not have any engine noise.

Ya, that may well be true. But then again, I remember when on a quiet day, if you listened carefully you could hear a Ford rusting in the parking lot.

I never found the clicking of a camera shutter button objectionable, or even loud for that matter. I once had an old Kodak point & shoot that had different settings for the sound of the shutter, some of the sounds were cool. Maybe my hearing isn't what it used to be but I like the soft sound of a camera shutter.

I like the reassuring sound of a door closing of a well made car. Back in my High School days I used to install glass pack mufflers on my car to make it sound louder and meaner. I agree with you about electric car's, not hearing the quiet purr of an engine would drive me crazy also.

I love the shutter noise and was disappointed to learn the new Nikon Z series mirrorless was not as loud as the dSLR.

I think there is a menu option...

Used to bother me, so I did a simple upgrade - my new hearing aid has volume control.

My Canon 5D III has a silent shutter option which I much prefer over the standard shutter sound specially when I'm shooting a wedding or other quiet indoor function.

I was at a "Parade of Pianos" concert this weekend with two photographers moving around the audience and even the stage area. One appeared to be using a DSLR, the other mirrorless, but both had loud (for the setting) shutter sounds. That was certainly a setting in which their cameras should have been silenced as much as possible. Their movement was bad enough, but the shutter sounds were very distracting during the piano solos just added to the distractions they caused.

Noise? I find my digital cameras very quiet after having used my Ftn with a motor drive. If I really wanted to get someones attention I used my Bronica S2. Now that would drown out a train wreck. Be thankful for digital.
