Tony and Chelsea said many times they had a preproduction model and were anxious to get their hands on a final production model to do an in depth test. The Adorama review was more positive, but we also need to remember that Adorama sells cameras.

Five or six weeks and we should start get a true picture.

I would not base my opinion on Tony and Chelsea review, they had a very limited time with the camera. This is the review by the pro from Adorama, somebody who actually used the camera and he loved it.

I don’t get it. I don’t take any of these reviews as gospel. I’ll reserve my final judgement on my seeing the camera in hand and trying it myself. However, I am confused at the almost angry reaction in the Adorama videos above. It almost seemed like a “how dare you be disappointed about anything with this camera”. With every new camera release there is always something we wished for that wasn’t included, and with that a hint of disappointment. I was stunned by the reviewers anger at anyone who thought they needed a second card slot. He mostly shoots tethered so it makes no difference to him and therefore you shouldn’t care either! WOW!

That's good. I was hoping they would continue with DSLR cameras.
I'm waiting to read reviews on the production Z6 and Z7 cameras. I'm sure Nikon will work at getting the autofocus issues fixed.

Of course they will continue.. you can even still purchase a 35mm film model if you want. Nikon, still has two film cameras in its stable: the $2,449 Nikon F6 and Nikon FM10 film SLRs.May 30, 2018

Nikons stated production of the Z7 camera is 20 thousand units per month. Production started a few weeks ago and shipping is still 3 weeks away. Demand appears to be at the same level as the D850, if not higher. Nikon just stated that pre-orders already received will not all be filled with the initial shipment. That means probably over 40 thousand pre-orders placed in the first 4 days since announcement. So much for lack of sales due to one card slot!

That's a lot of problems heading out to buyers.

Yes, I broke down and pre-ordered one, with the adapter and the Nikon 500mm F5.6 PE lens specifically for my upcoming AL-CA-NE Photo Expedition. I an definitely NOT a mirrorless proponent having suffered through experimentation phase with the FF Sony products. But the commonality of this camera to my D850 paired with the light weight made it kind of a no brainer to me for my specific purpose on that trip. Plus it will still use all my F mount lenses as well, major versatility potential. Very much looking forward to getting and using both these products.

MT Shooter, regardless of Tony, Chelsea, Fro, Tattoo man from Kentucky, etc. have to say about Nikon ML; there is no doubt in my mind as well as yours that the Z6 and Z7 combo are magnificent cameras. One card is not the end of the world since most card failures are caused by human error anyway. Soon you will have the Z7 in your possession and without doubt you will never be sorry. Enjoy the Z7 and disregard all the nonsense from many people with nothing better to do. Have a fabulous photography trip. Way to go MT.

Magnificient? Whilst I really like Nikon products how can you describe two pre-production, pre-viewed (not reviewed) cameras as magnificient? The Z6 will not be available until November, so what do you base your claim on? And you state other people talk nonsense.

On the one hand, I find it hard to believe that 40k people ordered those cameras in four days. On the other hand, there are a lot of people on this planet. I wonder if Nikon is actually up to the 20k unit production level, or if the initial run is for a smaller number of bodies. Either way, the people at Nikon should be very happy. I can't imagine how Nikon, or any other camera company, can manage production of all their different bodies and lenses to meet demand but not have a glut of products.

Jerry, actually 40K is easy to believe. There has to be ,say, 10k at a minimum retail locations just in the US and/or Europe @ 4 units each for store inventory ???

Watch Steve Perry from Backcountry's review. It goes along with Tony and Chelsea's review. For action photography, the focus is too slow (on the pre-production models) and he brought up a few other interesting points. For still photography, everybody loves it, not so much for action photography.

"For still photography," that's probably 80% of the available market

There was a tour of the plant where the Z7 is being built. It was stated that production is 20,000 a month right now.

I went to a Nikon hands on touch and feel presentation of the Z7 last night at a local camera store. I went to the same type of presentation for the D850 a year ago and there were like 20 or so attendees. Last night I think there were at least 80.

Impressive camera but like many others, I just bought 2 D850 and the Z7 currently does not fit my shooting needs so I'll wait until I win the lottery to consider purchasing one.

The "coupling" unit (presenter did not want to call it an adapter) is definitely a necessity if you have an inventory of Nikon F mount lenses.

The issue of the one card slot came up and a Nikon ambassador responded that he got it first hand from the Nikon team that if they added a second slot they would have had to make the camera deeper and sacrifice the sharpness they achieved with the current design of the lens distance to sensor distance. There was a technical term for it but it escapes my mind. Personally, it was not an issue for me since in all the decades of shooting film, I never had a camera that held two rolls of Kodachrome. Also, the QXD card has been touted as one of the most reliable cards on the market with many testimonials at last nights event.

In addition, the CF Express card is on the horizon which will be compatible with the QXD slot.

I did get to hold one with the 24-70 lens on it. Nice feel and very light. I could see this being a second or third camera to my D850 for capturing extremely sharp landscape photos and using the D850 as the workhorse of my type of shooting.

That has not been the only report I have read and watched about the AF of the new cameras. The Adorama gentleman DID NOT test the camera for action, only on still subjects. Nikon will be well aware of that and I am sure there will be a software update to correct the problem.
Other bugs, if present, will be corrected prior to releasing the cameras.
