I have not posted anything in quite a while, but keep looking at the postings of other Members. Have learned a lot from this Site. Now I could really use your help.

I am looking for a good Printer, that lets me print quality Photos on a variety of Card-Stock as well as Photo-Paper. I need a Printer that lets me print up to 17 inches wide and in a longer version. I had an Epson R1800 which was really a great Printer. After several years it gave up and I purchased the RM1900. That was not as good as the R 1800 but still did the job. Now I have to get a new one, but am not sure what Brand to buy.
I did like the Epson product, but there is no Service in the Austin, Tx area. The guy that did a great job servicing the Printer retired due to health reasons, and I have not found anyone that will Service an Epson Printer. So it is either buy another product, or ship the Printer to Dallas or San Antonio. Neither is desirable.

So my question -
what do you all use, and which one do you recommend. I print mainly Scrapbook Pages and Cards. as well as some large size Photos. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use an Epson P800, and am very satisfied with it. The print quality is outstanding. The ink is about $50/80-ml cartridge, but that is much less expensive per ml than most other printers. I've had it about 1½ years, and never had problems with clogging -- even though it has sat unused several times for a month or more.

The P-800 replaced an R-2400 that I had for about 6 years, and neither one has ever required professional servicing (so far, anyway). The printer is rather large, of course, since it prints up to 17" wide; it requires a separate table in my office.

Did you actually mean 17" wide? And not 13" wide by 17" or 19" long? Not much at 17" wide and would be big Money.

While these are excellent printers, they can not print 17 inches wide. A quick check at the Canon website reveals two printers, the pro-1000 (17 inches, $1099 after rebate) and the PROGRAF iPF670E (24 inches, $895). The remaining Canon printers either don't print 17 inches wide or cost $3695 up.

I agree with the Pro 100. I have the Pixima Pro 100 and am very satisfied with the output. It will print up to a 13x19 photo. It also has a rear feed for heavyweight stock if needed. There is also an offer of a $250.00 rebate till Aug 31st and includes $49.00 worth of free paper. B&H and Adorama have them with the rebate.

You can drive your new Epson printer to San Antonio in about 45 minutes, get it fixed (or at least drop it off), have a nice lunch on the Riverwalk or in the Old Market and cruise back on home. Easy peasy. — Ralph

I use a Canon pro 100s, it gives great prints in A4,A3 and A3+. It is also capable of printing on both Canvas and Disks.

OK, your R1800 printed 13" wide but when using roll paper would go to 13" x 44". So I assume you are saying it did 13" x 17" wide in landscape mode.
I use a Canon Pro-100 ($499.99 list-almost always on sale or rebate with free paper which often brings price down to less than $100) which when fed from the rear will go to a custom setting of 13x26 (The Canon and most 13" printers actually print 12.95" unless printing borderless).
The Pro-100 uses 8 ink tanks of dye ink. I refill with Precision Colors.

Canon Pro-10 ($699.99-sometimes on special and rebate) uses pigment inks and does the same paper sizes as the Pro-100.

Canon Pro-1000 ($1299.99 list, I don't know about sales and rebates) pigment inks but 17" width so 17x25.5 largest custom size when back fed.

What kind of Photos do you print? I am looking for something that lets me print on heavy Card-Stock as well as regular Photo Paper. I am afraid Card-Stock always clogs the Printheads a lot faster than Photo Paper, so I am looking for someone that has used Card-Stock in addition to regular Photo Paper and can give me a Feed-back.

Like I said at my original Post, I really liked the R1800 and also the R1900 I have the Space for the big Printer, so will probably go with the P800. I think the $1295.00 List Price is a good Price for a Printer that prints 17" wide.

Yes I can print 17" wide with my Epson. So that's what I would like to replace.

They charge $95.00 just for looking at the problem. That does not include any kind of Repair. So I am a bit hesitant. My Local guy charged $50 and it counted towards any Repair. I just needed to have the Printer
cleaned every year or so. Which is not bad. And he always told me, some of the Card-Stock leaves a film on the Printheads, and that causes it to need cleaning. Otherwise never had a problem.

Both Canon and Epson make excellent photo printers. Both make beautiful, archival prints. You can't go wrong either way, just look for one that has the features you want, i.e., can handle roll paper and what thickness of card stock. If you go Epson, I would recommend a printer using their new Claria dye based archival inks, but you will get good results from the Ultrachrome (like with your R1800) pigment based inks as well.
