There are some camera people who are sorta' like that! I'm NOT one of them. I like ALL cameras, I just happen to use a Pentax. It's the PHOTOGRAPHS I like, not necessarily the camera that took them.

Hey, I'm like you! If a camera can do what I want it to do and capture the images I want, to me it's a good camera, no matter what brand it is.
I'm not a fanboy of any particular brand, that's includes cars too. If that car can get me to where I want to go, is comfortable and dependable, it's a good car.
It's the photographer that makes the image, not the camera.

I hope this is the right thread!i shoot pentax i hsve a k5 becuz of its rugged construction, when i shot film along time ago i shot pentax and canon.heres my conumdrum
..i want to upgrade my gear, but to date i have seen a distinct shortage of bigger pentax glass.so im thinking should i stick with pentax or go back to canon becuz of its number of lenses and the features i like on my k5 like the shoulder or top screen.also if the rumors are true will pentax go away .one problem is the amount of money invested in pentax gear.btw i do shoot a bridge canon and use it as an alternative and spare camera.im also looking at sony as well.any thots?

The rumors about Pentax going away have been around a long, long time. My guess is that they won't go away, at least any time soon. The problem is that they're pretty much locked into the dslr world (with an exception for their durable medium format camera). Their one foray into mirrorless fizzled big time, except in Japan, although it (the K-01) was not a bad camera and it took all the existing k-mount lenses. I don't see Ricoh trying again with ML.

I'd expect them to keep working on lenses, especially full frame lenses. But I doubt that there will be a lot of energy put into the brand from here on out.

I'd been shooting with Pentax cameras since the eighties when I got my K-1000. I now use a K-200 and a K-01.

when I decided to go medium format I choose the pentax 645d. it and the 645z are excellent cameras.

The k01 was a touch weak, there was no EVF only a single card slot with a finicky cover and the flange focal distance remained the same as with the Pentax DSLR lenses.

The AF was pretty much hit and miss, i was just reading a 50% miss rate.

It could have been so much better, if those issues had been addressed. The alternative really would be something like the k3, k30 ... which basically did everything the k01 did and gave you a proper viewfinder ...

I guess pentax didn't want a lens mount adapter or to be building a new range of lenses. I really think Pentax needs to work on improving AF it's mostly their weakest aspect when it comes to shooting fast and accurate.
