Depending where the spots appear in the frame, a viewer may not even perceive them at all.

Again, I mention the Spot Visualization tool in Adobe Camera Raw for bringing out and removing these spots.

They will always be there and can be easily removed in post editing.

You know, I was always getting in trouble with my math teachers for not reading the problem completely before deciding on the answer. I guess things never change!!

I have had those same dark spots in my photos as well. Turned out to be mosquitoes. And since you were shooting over a pond, more than likely that's what it is.

They appear to be in the far distance so I don't think it's dust or debris. I'd vote for birds especially right-side of the middle. I can almost see wing spans on a few if you look closely.

Definitely not sensor dust, it appears to be objects flying around in the atmosphere.

The spots are only 2 to 4 pixels so no way to know if they are actual birds or whatever. The only way to deal with this is to take another pic with that area in the clear. The second pic could have the same problem but you couldn't see the spots in the forest area.

The white spots on the farthest edge of the pool are either particles floating on the surface or insect.
A pool like this is a home for bugs.

The image is what counts - in this good photograph.
Thank you for sharing!

Are you concerned that your camera isn't taking level photos? Or maybe that's a Mystery Spot where water doesn't seek level... the way it does in most ponds, lakes and oceans. (5DIV has a built in electronic level, I think.)
Not nearly as concerned about level as that is an easy fix with the crop tool in PS. As many spots as I saw in this image was of much more concern because it was unexplained. But thanks for your insightful info and for pointing out that I have a level finder in the camera. I'll have to check, but I think I have one on the tripod I was using also.

In #1 could the spots be substructure in the clouds that reflect more light?

Perhaps a couple of large liquid droplets?

billnourse, those "spots" could be bugs and if I look at your shatter speed of 1/15 which is very low, that could be the reason for the "stripe" effect, afterall you were shooting at a pond!

Looks to me like a dust devil in the area picked up some litter and you got it in your photo as it was settling back to earth.

I doubt these are from dirty sensor. Those spots are usually round and would show up in same place every time. Birds and/or insects. Easy Photoshop fix though.

As mentioned I think they're micro fibers. They're all over the photo but more evident in the clouds.
