Do any UHHers participate in the marketing site, Fine Art America. If so, is it a good place to market photos?

UHH user russelray

The guy has made a great late-stage living from his work.

Also, if you do a UHH search for Fine Art America (button at top of every page), many previous threads pop up.

My niece uses the site for her artwork. I've seen about 20 pieces they made from it (prints, pillows, throws, cards...) and they all looked great!

I put some photos on the site a couple years ago, and have never sold any.
May simply be that they are not sale-able. :-)
My page is under my name, Rhett Farrior.

Thanks, I was wondering how legitimate it is. Guess it's worth a try. Looks like there is nothing to lose.

One key to using sites like this is to use some other methods to get the word out (advertise) that your work is for sale online.

Here's a 2011 thread from Russel Ray that explains what he does. https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-327835-1.html

I have been on Fine Art America since 2012. I am a paid member, in the past 8 years, I sold 3 images.
Not surprising since everyone is now a photographer!

I am a member of this site for a couple of years. Helpful and easy to use. Your Images are displayed well and lots of opportunities to join in on competitions.
Click on my listing at the bottom of this message.

I too have been a member at the Fine Art America (https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/izet-kapetanovic.html?tab=artworkgalleries ) and ocassionally sell few prints. However, few and far in between. As someone mentioned, with the advent of digital technology everyone is a photographer. They also offer a very nice collection of products with images printed on them, but the only sales that I've made were for framed or unframed prints (except a shower curtain with one of my landscape images that I've bought).

I sell some. The quality of their work is above reproach. My customers have been well served.

It’s legitimate and I know people who have sold prints on the sight. Not much of a pay back but you can set you own prices. I use it to produce items like pillows to sell.

As with anything in life, nothing ventured nothing gained. I joined FAA in 2017 10 or so months ago and have garnered some 17 sales to this point. Like many others on UHH and other photography sites and blogs, not getting rich but, it's passive income that doesn't require much upkeep on our part. It's nice to get a notification every once in a while that you've made a couple bucks while you were sleeping, lol. Give it a shot (pun intended) you never know what might come of it. Good luck and as always keep shooting...

I've been with FAA for about 5 years now,....in that time I've seen a large dwindling of sales.

The trick there is to "Market" your FAA website effectively to draw in buyers.

There are sooooo many talented and not so talented photographers online these days,..I think the public just dismisses them as a nuisance,...but it can be done.

FAA is free for up to 25 posted images,...then $30.00 per year for unlimitted uploads.

I usually cover my cost during the year, but it's definitely not a cake walk,....the more images you display increases your chances,...many photographers upload images in the thousands.

My problem is I specialize on a unique market that that appeals to probably very few interested buyers.
I love my website that FAA allowed me to create,...it took many, many hours to get it exactly as I liked it.
I display approx 450 or so images.
For this old timer it's a place to post my very best work,..my aim is well composed images that lend them self to interesting wall decor.

For anyone interested in seeing what I created on FAA,.... https://marty-saccone.pixels.com

There you go,.....I'm marketing when I tell others,...adding to the thousands and thousands of photographers/artists,...flooding the internet,...screaming,...see me,...see my work,...look at my work,.....but that's how it works,....No marketing,.....no sales,...no guarantee either.

Maybe you have a unique niche????,...that buyer will flock to???,...there are those who have made a name for themselves.

I have several displays around the small town I live in,...in public buildings and such,..(about 30 or 40 stretched canvas prints) that I've heavily invested $$ into. You have to maintain a positive outlook once you commit your self,...get use to a LOT of tire kickers and uninterested viewers.
Then your work just becomes familiar with the local community,....that's it,....it goes no further.

I've found an interesting work around that bring in pretty good sales thru focusing on the local tourist industry where I live.

I've licensed one of my images to a national restaurant chain for use in their interior remodeling decor,...a nice surprise that my efforts have rewarded me with.

Anyway FAA is a good place in my opinion,...have made many new friends with other artists and utilize FAA's online forum to share ideas and concepts on marketing.

Pretty images,...are,...pretty images,....and people love to browse,..browse,...browse,....all over the internet,....but few buy and it's worse since everyone now has built in cameras in their smart phones that the post absolutely everywhere you go online.
Has smothered the market,...to such an extent,...that you just gloss over pics,...tooooooo common place.

Finding discriminating buyers ain't easy pickings,....for sure.

I love what I do and am proud to have FAA as my showplace. I'm going to be creating images till they plant me in the ground anyway.

At my age what would I do with fame,...no use to me,...a little recognition from other photographers is a gratifying experience and give me a place and chance to carry on photo speak with those who are doing the same thing.,...artists don't buy from artists though.

Good luck,...overall FAA is worth the reasonable cost/year,....just brush up on some original marketing skills or ideas to direct fresh viewers (buyere??),..to your site,...and you're off and running.

I've been on FAA almost since it started. Don't sell a lot, but some. I can have my own prints made there, so that's a plus. They do a good job. As any other marketing ploy, you have to work it. If you simply post and forget, you'll simply have an online archive.
