My thought for the day regarding high megapixel cameras is that you can shoot everything horizontal which is easier than shooting vertically, and not worry too much about cropping. Shooting everything horizontal is an advantage to me in quick shooting and flash shooting situations.

You could take photos of the Eiffel Tower or a full length shot of a bride in landscape mode, I suppose, but you would need to be twice as far from the subject.

Nothing wrong with cropping more megapixels gives you the ability to get that picture within the picture which can be the better picture.....purists have a lot to learn about the Art of Photography keep doing what you are doing pay them no mind

Well said.

In addition a 50, 45 or 42 MP camera provides the opportunity to extend all your lenses. My 100-400mm lens effectively becomes a 200-600mm and there are enough pixels to crop again if I choose.

The concept of a vertical crop from a horizontal shot with a mega pixel will indeed work, but this sounds a bit like using a hi tech expensive camera like it's nothing more than an auto everything 'point and shoot' pocket camera. My impression only.

Interesting comments by Gene51 in a related thread "How many megapixels do you need?" (https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-547255-1.html)

Particularly relevant for me is his observation that "The biggest advantage of a camera that captures more than 12 mp would be the ability to crop an image for a more meaningful composition."

Since I'm one of those who likes to fill the frame, the biggest advantage for me is being able to print a much larger picture. My Canon 760D takes 24 mp pictures, 6000 x 4000, which allows me to print 60 inches x 40 inches at 100 dpi/ppi.

I hear you; I guess it all depends on how we use our images.

Me? I'm a frame filler, and always have been. I guess my parents taught me not to waste anything. lol
