Does anyone use a string to hold their lens cap when shooting or anything else to hold the cap outside of your pocket? I feel safer with the string holding the cap.

I just take it off and stick it in my pocket.

Joe, I'm in Mac's camp. Take it off the lens and put it in my pocket. I do that as soon as I leave the house. Put it back on when I feel I'm done shooting for the day, or when I arrive back home.

I find having "additional not directly related to taking photographs" crap dangling off the camera is rather distracting.

I do the pocket thing too. I tried the string thing several years ago, but it annoyed me.

Another in "the pocket" photographer. A hanging lens cap to me is very distracting especially if you are panning.

i'll go with the pocket group … string is another thing to get tangled, distracted, cussed at, etc.

I've met quite a few photographers in my life, and I can't remember any who had their lens cap hanging from a string.

With a lens hood, the only time the lens cap is on the camera is when it’s put away for the day. Otherwise, when the lens is in use, the cap is in my pocket. Some experts don’t believe you ever need a cap if you have a hood.

I used to throw them in my camera bag and was a pain relieving it. I came across a buddy belt. That is where my front and rear lens caps go.

I've always just stuck it in my pocket. My problem is forgetting to put it back on, going inside and laying it somewhere. My house has eaten about a half dozen & won't give them up.

Ditto. (For over 45 years)
My little Sony has its cap tethered, I hate it. Always in my way when I use that camera. I'm thinking of cutting it loose.
