Bought the OP/TECH USA Utility Strap-Sling for my D7200.
Pleased with how it fits, how camera easily slides up and down strap for shooting and comfort carry. Mine is NOT the model with steel cable.

My only concern is the single connection point on the grip side of my D7200. Wondering about how secure and safe it will be (connection failure?). Prefer sling to around neck carry.

Any thoughts or better options?

I have (and prefer) the Black Rapid shoulder sling. (I have a D7200 with vertical battery grip and Tamron 16-300mm lens). Screws into tripod socket, very secure, and comfortable with heavy lens/camera. Stays at your side, can ride higher/lower. Connection solid as a rock. I've had it on all day walking the track (race cars) shooting pictures. IMHO, best way to go.

Ken,

Do you know the exact model/name of your sling? The wide selection on the BR site has me a bit confused.

No problems. I also use one with my D7200 and usually a 300mm lens with a 1.4x TC. I prefer it to the straps that attach to the tripod socket.

Not to worry, I have used their sling on MUCH more expensive gear for many years now. You do have two strap lug connections with them. I trust Optechs straps implicitly, been a user of their straps since 1982 with never a hint of a failure. Still have that original 1982 camera strap on my binoculars today!

If your camera has a strap connection on the base, or if you have an L-plate, you can use an Op-Tech system connector to add a secondary support.

I have been using Op/Tech straps for four to five years and have it connected to two points one the battery grip and one on the opposite point on the camera.
I have the Uni-loop connectors on both cameras then connect the sling strap to the camera, this works fine for me.
I also put a narrow velcro strap through the clips just to be on the safe side.

I was always told to not trust the tripod mount for carrying the camera as this is designed to support weight not to carry weight.
Not sure how true it is but I wouldn't trust it.

With the one attachment point (top of grip - I have no battery grip), I like how the camera slides up the sling strap when ready to shoot (and nothing in the way of viewfinder).
Does it still slide with two connectors and attachment points? If not, is the viewfinder clear of straps when you raise the camera to shooting position (working like a neck strap with camera hanging in front of you)?

I also have used Black Rapid for years never a problem. I have a single and double strap. Every time I use the strap with the camera I check to make sure the connection between the camera and strap is tight.

I also use a BlackRapid shoulder sling. Like others have said, walking around all day was not tiring at all with the camera hanging down. And the screw attachment is absolutely safe. The only thing is that when I use a tripod, i have to take the strap off. But when using a tripod, who needs a shoulder strap...
Oh, BTW, i have a Canon 60D, w/ a 28-300 zoom.

Hi frjeff
The camera still slides easily with no interference to the view finder.

Been using an OpTec Double Sling for several years now, and it's been a champ. Nice weight distribution, and very comfortable.

When I'm not shooting, the camera hangs at my side, just beneath my right hand, so I can easily get to it, and just as easily steady it when walking or climbing, and so on.

I don't use multiple camera bodies, so I keep the left-side sling cinched up as far as it goes, and it's always there, should I want to tote a second body or a pair of binocs.

VERY pleased with this strap.
