I recently purchased a RAVPower EN EL15A battery from Amazon during the Amazon Prime Day sale. It came with a USB charger, connecting wire and two batteries. It took about 2 hours to charge each battery, both batteries fit perfectly into my D810, were recognized by the camera and indicated full charges. The batteries also popped-out of the D810’s battery compartment easily and without issue. So far I’ve only taken about 250 shots with one of the batteries (including using the pop-up flash), and the battery I’m testing seems to be holding its charge. After four days’ storage in the D810, I’ve lost one bar on the camera’s battery meter. So... so far so good with the RAVPower. I also like the RAVPower battery charger which allows charging of two batteries simultaneously.

I have used both with general success, although the generic batteries give fewer shots than OEM. Beware however of some really cheap chargers. I had one that got so hot it melted. Fortunately, I smelled the smolder and saved the house.

leftj, The D810 comes with a charger that accommodates the EN-EL15 batteries. The upgraded new battery is the EN-EL18, and of course it requires a different charger.

I realize that the discussion of OEM vs 3rd party camera batteries have pretty much run it's course. I have always been in the OEM camp. But, does this discussion
also include 3rd party camera battery chargers? I'm interested in purchasing a Nikon EN-EL18 battery and was wondering if I need to invest into a Nikon charger?
The savings on a 3rd party charger (i.e. Kaster) would give me an additional battery (well almost.) Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

To me, there are 3rd party batteries and chargers, OEM, and OEM knock offs. OEM are $$$$, 3rd party (which have always worked well for me) are cheaper, & OEM knock offs which are pure junk. I once bought a Canon knock off charger for cheap and it was still overpriced. I knew as soon as I opened the box I had been had. It weighed about as much as a quarter and when plugged in all the light went on and stayed on but a voltmeter determined there were ZERO volts. Physically it looked EXACTICALLY like the OEM that came with the camera from Canon.

I have an OEM Canon charger that will only charge an Canon OEM battery. 3rd party batteries need not apply. Whether or not it was intended that way I don't know. My 3rd party charger for the Canon however, will charge any and all brands.

I buy 3rd party brands I have used before and although OEM may be better it is also a lotsa more moola.

I used a Kingston charger with My 50D Canon batteries for 4 years with no problem. I'm looking for a charger with a USB power input to work in my car.

I have a 'Premium Tech' dual charger for my Canon LP-E6 batteries that runs on USB. Had it a year or so and works fine.
