Will keep my 14-24, 24-70 And my 70-200 all 2.8.( holy trinity of lenses) just thought 28-300 would be a great walk around lens.

I have it on a D610. For me, there are no problems.

no probs for me either on my D3300. I'm kind of a intermediate amateur. i think i got it shortly after it came out. didn't know it. waited a year for anything, rebate or sale. don't mind i didn't wait 3 years, lol.

I love it. I will have to defer to the several "professionals" who assert that it is not in the same class as the primes. Of course it is not. But I have used it often when traveling overseas or domestically in circumstances that I needed to limit my lens selection for weight and packing considerations. I have some pictures I think (and some others agree) are very nice blown up to 20 X 30 hanging on our walls. I guess the "professionals" will consider me accepting of low quality but I'm happy with the results and the lens is really handy for travels that include a wide range of challenges. Sure, I have the Nikon 16-35, the 24-70, the 70-200, the 50 f1.4, the 85 f1.8, the 80-400 and the 200-500 and some others but there is no way to take them all conveniently on a cruise. Over the last year, I have read many inputs by other Hoggers who are quite pleased with the 28-300.

I my 28-300 on my D7200. Others have stated that good light and simple backgrounds help.
I also use it on my D7200 to shoot video. Works very well for that.

I have used my 28-300 on my D800 for a few years now. At the risk of being accused of being called "someone with low quality standards," I am very happy with the lens. I also own Nikon's 24-70 and 70-300, but use them less and less. I have printed many 13x19 prints from this lens and, at most, they may have required a LITTLE post processing sharpening. Some of these prints have won medals and honors. I do a lot of street photography and you can't beat it for a "walking around lens."

It doesnt have to be razor sharp...the raw files are massive and you can sharpen to your hearts content in post processing without the photos looking like theyve been overdone.

It's a great lens for taking on vacation and walking around BUT it does have its limitations. It's soft but it does have a place in my bag. If I'm limited to two lenses, I always grab my 50mm f/1.4 and my 70-200 f/2.8d. If I'm limited to one lens, its situation dependent but can be a toss-up between the 50mm or the 24-70 f/2.8.

The discontinued D3300 is better than the D3400, IMO. Nikon is planning on the D3500 release by the end of this year.

I use my Nikon 28-300mm as my travel lens on a D810 and it is tack sharp. The barreling and other defects of lenses are easily fix in P/S when necessary. I’m thinking of taking my 24-70 f2.8 unless I need the long shots like animals in Africa, but if I teturn i’ll buy the Tamron 150-600mm and die a happy man!! Just a thought....

I use it ALOT on my Nikon D800 and think it is a great all around lens. Of course, it is not sharp as a prime lens but that's par for the course for zoom vs prime lenses. I have won alot of awards at county/state fairs using the same camera/lens combo. And, I can print large with no problems. This recent photo of Machu Picchu was taken on 06/11/18 with the Nikon 28-300mm on my Nikon D800. It is a post processed HANDHELD 3 bracketed photo that is actually softened somewhat to look better on the internet. Picture I use for printing is sharper.
