You didn’t say what lenses you had! I can tell you that space will be at a premium on the cruise, so less is more! I would take a decent zoom, but you don’t have to go crazy long. I’d also take a fast prime like a 35 or 50mm 1.8. Enjoy your trip and don’t get bogged down with too much gear.

Best advise anyone will give you is to travel LIGHT...one wide and a medium tele with a small tripod, table size like an Ultra-Pod. An all in one Bridge camera would be optimum....most of all, enjoy the cruise.

We did the reverse trip last October. The camera I used was a Nikon 810 and my lens of choice was the Nikkor 70-200 2.8. Shooting in raw you can easily enlarge any picture. We added on Prague before hand. Well worth it, a beautiful city.

This was a great trip. I’m sure you will love it.

On river cruises in Europe I found my Tamron 18-270mm lens on my Nikon perfect for the shots I wanted. There is plenty to see and i sure you will enjoy the trip. Being on a river allows you to see the little towns, cities and sites from a good distance and close up.

Did the same Grand European trip two years ago. My combination was “perfect” for me: Canon 6d with 24-105mm f4/L and 50mm f1.8 for general shooting. Also, a Canon SX50 HS for most shots from the boat. Sling bag plus extra batteries. If you bring a tripod, monopod or flash, find a cozy corner in your boat cabin because you will not use them.

I'm going on a Tauck 12 day cruise from Prague to Budapest with three extra days tacked on. I have Canon 5D MIII & 7D MII and three L lenses. I purchased a Sony RX 10 IV for the trip. Still learning, but it's a fabulous camera and a viable solution to carrying heavy equipment without sacrificing image quality, a priority for me. I've done that on several cruises and it is cumbersome. You might consider renting the Sony RX 10 IV. (24 - 600mm, f/2.4 on the wide end)

I’m taking that trip in August. Taking my D7100 with 18-200 plus my 35mm 1.8 for night and my new 10-20 4.5 for crowded cities and landscapes. Also a table top tripod. Except for batteries, cleaning stuff and a CPL that’s it.

Do yo have anything like a 28 (or 30) to 300? That would be ideal while on the boat. For shore excursions, something like a 18 - 25 as European cities/towns are very compact.

I should have listed lenses.
EFS 10-18
EFS 18-55
EFS 18-200 (my normal go to lens)
EF 70-300 USM (was great in Alaska)
and a flash Speedlite 580EX
plus a pocket camera OLympus stylus Tough (takes great shots of grandkids in the pool and snorkeling)
I have a large camera back pack (can also carry jackets, etc), a smaller camera backpack (holds all of above) and an old shoulder bag.
Sounds like the big tripod and monopod stay home.
What should I take?

You do not need any special equipment to go on a cruise, you only need to consider the weight, as you will be flying will also have to carry your equipment everywhere so my tip for what it's worth keeping it light and choose one or two suitable lenses such as EFS 18-55 and/or the EFS 18-200, that should be suitable for most scenarios.

Take the 18-200 and leave the rest at home.

I am on the Viking Baldur right now in Koln, Germany on the way to Budapest. The temp. Is in the 80’s. I have a Canon Rebel and a Sigma17-50 2.8 and a Canon 55-250. I also have a Canon SX60HC. So far there has been a lot of walking. A lot of walking and it is hot. I don’t know your age, but I am 83 and in good health. No cane or walker, and it is getting very tiresome. Those cameras and lenses get very heavy. Take the best and lightest outfit you have for the quality of work you can live with. Good luck, have fun. They just told us the water level in the Danube is low and we may have to change boats.

I took this trip last year but in the opposite direction. Fantastic trip! Great opportunities for photos at every stop. I had a Canon 60D and Tamron 18-270. Worked well for me. I have posted 6-7 sets of pictures on this site. If you do a search and check them out, you may find them helpful. Enjoy!!
