First, thanks for all the suggestions on my prior post requesting info on our Michigan trip. I think we have a full itinerary! We plan to do the sunset cruise tomorrow at Pictured Rock on the UP and wonder if anyone had done this before. Specifically, what is the best lens to use? If they get close to the shoreline I might get away with my 16-35. I brought a 55 prime and a 70-200. Hope to not require too many quick changes on the boat.
It's a beautiful trip. Get there so you are among the first to board, if possible. We sat toward the front on the upper deck on the right-hand side of the boat so we'd have the shoreline view both going out and coming back. You'd be surprised at the nice photos you'd get even with a cellphone. Michigan's Upper Peninsula is a place of the heart. Enjoy!
My husband & I have done the sunset cruise twice! It's absolutely beautiful. I have a Nikon 5300 camera & at the time had the 18-55 kit lens and a 55-300 zoom. I used the zoom lens all the time & got great shots. In fact one of the sunset pictures came in 2nd to "Best of Show" in our county fair. If you have time, stop by Whitefish Point and see the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. Have lots of fun!
I am going to upper Mi. for the seasonal leaves changes this fall if my health allows, been there before and it is just gorgeous.
Get the last trip out in the evening. The sun setting against the rocks and cliffs is awesome.
So how was the sunset cruise, russ??

Very good! We got there early to get a top deck right hand side. The weather was great and we had a nice sunset. We were on the high speed hydro- plane type boat that holds about 350 people. Took many photos! I'll post some when we get back home and download them.
Here are a couple of shots with my cell phone.
