Anyone using the Canon G7X MK2? Thoughts, impressions, strengths, weaknesses? This camera interests me for a travel, pocket camera.

Outstanding well rounded camera in a small format.
Early last year I test drove the G7x, G9, and G5x. Ended up getting the G5x because of the viewfinder.
This year, I've been spending a lot of time with the Sony Rx100 mkv which is and amazing compact that blows the canon out of the water in focus speed and so forth. The newer Sony RX100 MK VI with the 22?-200 lens blows the original out of the water.
Either way, get the "LensMate" adapter so you can put a polarizer on the factory lens, and/or a clear lens protector and buy a lens cap to fit. Makes a huge difference in managing glare, etc, and daylight image quality.

Thanks. So how would you rate the G5X against the G7X MkII? I've been reading about that one too.

If smallness is important to you I would consider the Canon G9 X. It is smaller than the G7 X. I have used it as a back-up camera for a couple of years. It has a one-inch sensor and great image quality. It fits into my pant or shirt pockets without leaving a bulge. I can stick it in my pocket if I don't want to take a bag. The drawbacks of this camera, both a result of the very small form factor: no viewfinder and an unimpressive zoom range.

There are several notes about the G7XMkii. Some of them from myself. Do a search on this forum.

In short, I love this camera! Consumer Reports rate it above the G5 but then again there are feature differences that may point you to the G5.

Greg, I went the G9 X Mark II in 2017 for hiking. Fits in the pocket without weighting down my shorts. Always available for shooting which wouldn't be the case with any type of DSLR. The various Powershot models all seem to capture in RAW, just different length lenses and aperture sizes. I really like the manual option to override the camera decisions where mostly I used Aperture priority in AUTO ISO. The in-camera stabilization some times didn't let me get a sharp image handheld as I could by upping the shuttersheep say to 1/100 from the camera's preference of a slower speed. The onboard flash with Flash Exposure Compensation really gives you some control options in low(er) light.

Here's a couple of examples in action from the Appalachian Trail.

I looked at the g7x carefully but got the g5x. I know the g5x is due for a mark2 version, but I got an excellent price on it at Hunt's Photo, below Amazon's price. The G5x has the same 1" sensor as the G7X2, but has an eye piece, a slightly longer zoom, and a few other cool features.

I have the G7xII. Took it to Hawaii along with my 7DII. Have great pictures with the G7. Almost as good as the 7DII. And it's smaller, lighter and can fit in my purse or pocket. It's my go to camera for events where I don't want to take the heavier 7DII. And the no eyepiece was no problem, actually a plus. The articulating view screen allowed me to take pictures from most any angle without stooping or trying to step up on something.

And being farsighted with glasses the view screen allows me to focus manually better. The eyepiece even on my 7DII is hard to focus though with glasses on.

I have pretty large hands and can only go so small, then I have problems with the controls. I've handled a G7X MK2 a couple times and it's not too small. I think the G9Xii is a bit too small for me, and I like the longer, 100mm zoom on the G7X MK2.

I wear glasses, too, and having just an LCD screen isn't a deal breaker for me either. I have a G16 and only use the screen on it because the optical viewfinder is pretty much useless, given the parallax error and lack of any information in the viewfinder. I like the camera, though, but I want a larger sensor.

The G9Xii seems to get pretty good reviews, and those are nice pictures too, but still, it's just a bit too small. Actually, I'd have to handle one to see for sure. It's too bad that zoom range is so short.

I posted this thread because when I went to the search function, it told me there were no results for the G7X mkII. I tried a couple different ways, but got nothing. I'll try it again and see what I come up with using different wording. Thanks.

EDIT: I tried the search function again typing G7XMKII in several different configurations and it said there were no results found. When I prefaced it with "Canon" I got results for everything Canon but the G7XMKii. So I posted this thread.

I typed in G7x in the search and it came up with several threads. No results when typing it other ways. Hope that helps.

I just did the same thing and there were several threads about the G7XII. Seems everyone loves the camera and what it does. I may be offering up my Sony A6300 up for sale soon.
