Guide/Books for Nikon D7500

Have recently bought a refurbished Nikon D7500. Of course Nikon didn't provide an instruction manual for the camera. Could print the user manual available from Nikon but the thing is over 300 pages long. Looking on line and have found two books for the D7500. One written by David Busch and one by Darrell Young. Has anyone used books written by either of these two people? What did you think of the book? I have used the Magic Lantern Guides in the past for other cameras and found them to be will written and very helpful. However, they have yet to publish one for the D7500.

Darrell Young is a good, clear text writer.
Have bought his books before and was very pleased with their thoroughness and clarity.

David Busch has over 2 million books in print, somewhat specializing on manuals. Using one right now - like it.

Here is an idea - most camera manuals are also available free on-line in .PDF format. Therefore I carry mine right on my phone in case I need to look up something in case of a senior moment.

I have a D7500 as well that I bought last November. I have David’s book, and like it. Being new to DSLR’s, I found it very helpful. My other suggestion is to download Nikon’s ManualViewer App, and then download the D7500 manual inside it. It’s a great way to get the manual if you don’t have one, and to always have the manual with you. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever cracked open the paper copy that came with the camera.

Lastly, if you want a good education on Nikon’s autofocus system, get Steve Perry’s “Secrets to the Nikon Auto Focus System” e-book online, at www.backcountygallery.com.

I second this.

I have found Darrell Young’s books extremely useful and continually refer to them as my first reference choice...now for my D750 and previously with my D7100 and D90. When I travel, I always try to remember to pack his book.

I bought the Darrell Young book for the D7100. Indispensible!

I swear by Darrel Young! I had his Nikon guide and his Olympus guide and found/find both to be invaluable.

Have recently bought a refurbished Nikon D7500. O... (show quote)

I've used several of David Busch's guide books for various camera guides over the years and always found them good and recommend them. I've also bought and found good guides from Charlotte Lowrie, Doug Klostermann, and David Taylor.... but they don't all write guides for all camera models.

I'm just not familiar with Darrell Young's... they might be good, too. Read the buyer reviews on Amazon. Those might help you decide.

The only series I haven't found particularly helpful were the "Dummies" series... Their camera guides are just too basic, "generic" and full of unnecessary info for me (however, I've found "Dummies" books useful for other things, such as computer networking).

Reading the earlier responses... sounds like maybe you should buy both!

With no slight intended about your photographic abilities, I would suggest looking online to see if there is a "Nikon d7500 for Dummies" book available. I ordered one for my d7200 and it has been very helpful and has mostly clear explanations of procedures, etc.

Thank you all for your very useful comments. Most likely will get David Busch's book. To be honest I have been involved in photography for many years but age has caught up to me and I need all the help I can get with my new camera. I downloaded the Nikon User's manual as soon as I got the camera and downloaded it to my iPhone. However, it is over 300 pages long and like all previous Nikon manuals I have gotten, not very easy to read and use.

Again, thank you all.

I get all my books and magazines on Kindle. This way I have them with me all the time. When I got my D7500, I downloaded the manual from Nikon to have on hand since I don't run around with the printed manual that came with the camera. I ordered the D7500 book from Douglas Klustermann on Kindle, and it was pretty good. They do now have a D7500 for Dummies, but I don't have it. I purchased and devoured the pdf from Steve Perry, Secrets To The Nikon Autofocus System; it's a must-have for Nikon owners. I also recently purchased the pdf from Thom Hogan, The Complete Guide To The Nikon D7500. Mr. Perry's treatise on the AF system is excellent and very well-written. Mr. Hogan's opus is more general about the entire camera and is a great read also. I believe between these two documents and the Nikon Manual, you will be fully informed.
