At the urging of other Hogs, I am posting these older shots. On Kauai there is a significant wild chicken population. The popular theory is that after a hurricane in the 90s, the domestic and wild populations intermixed. During my trip there in 2017, I became fascinated by the variety of chickens and began to photograph them in their natural habitat (parking lots). Here are a few shots from my old camera showing chicken highlights.

They're beautiful! What do they eat? They look so healthy. No pecks from the others.

They are the "County Bird". All over the place. You'll find them on t-shirts of all kinds in most stores. Rumor has that they aren't very good eating, so they have no human predators, as well has others, so they just go all over the island. I'm sure I have plenty of pictures of them from our annual trips to Kauai, as well.

I took a couple chicken pix while there also and fed them. I do have a chicken shirt too!😁. Your photos are great.

Mike thank you for sharing. They're beautiful chickens and you took some great shots. We are planning a trip to the islands for our 20th anniversary next year. Now I can't wait to see the chickens!

Thanks, I have a strange fascination with them. They both forage and many people feed them. Some of the parking lots they inhabit are next to restaurants and similar facilities

I have at least three fighting chicken t-shirts.

Thanks for viewing the weird chickens. These birds cannot be missed in Kauai, but I doubt they could make it in NJ.

Thanks for your kind comments. I guess I will have to take a picture of one of my t-shirts too.

You motivated me with your fuzzy leg chicken capture. They are all over the islands, but they really thrive in Kauai.

An island classic in red dirt shade. Use download to read the "wild chicken" caption.
