I'm so glad you joined this forum.

The same applies to me. Unfortunately life is too short for posting tens of thousands of my images. Thanks for looking.

Fantastic images of fungi, and your technique for lighting shows a very professional approach. I also love to shoot mushrooms, but have never done any to this level of beauty as I use only natural light. I do get my knees, elbows and chin muddy though.

Thank you for your contribution and compliments.I also use natural light now and then for the convenience but the results lack way way behind the other approach. What you get with available light are documentary photos suitable for a mushroom guide with no artsy value, the visual impact is not there. My advice is :try the artificial light approach, you will love the results. The secret is you must have 100% control of the light source and be able to avoid reflection.I enclose one of my natural light Amanita muscaria.

TANK YOU for sharing!!! I was out taking mushroom pictures her on the Olympic Peninsula yesterday and was pretty proud of some of my work. Still proud of them but now I feel they would qualify more as nice "snap shots" - this is not a bad thing. It gives me new goals. I also would like to thank you for giving the info on your "field kit" That helps me to think more about what I would like to have with me.

Thank you, Alaskan. This confirms the opinion of a lot of others who have posted here; that you don't necessarily need a lot of expensive tools to get great photographs.

Agreed! I also think RAW is devil`s invention and more Megapixels than lets say 4-8 is an overkill. Thanks for looking.

Lets face it,it is not a rocket science.Sure it takes some experimenting but you really need much less light than you think. When I got disgusted with all my previous available light mushroom photos I deleted them thinking "there must be a better way to do it".It took me pretty much the whole mushroom season to figure out the artificial light approach and when I was finally becoming confident I run out of the mushrooms.))))) Go for it,you will not accomplish any such photos with a snapshot speed but what counts is the result. Thanks for looking.

By "extreme" I am talking about the rainforest conditions.Tongass Nat`l Forest is very unfriendly to visitors while these, often tiny and fragile, mushrooms prosper. All photos taken on location without disturbing anything.

Without any doubt Ivan (same name as me) these are the finest nature photographs I have ever seen anywhere in my long ole life. I cannot believe there is so much technical and artistic quality possible even with todays superb cameras. You should make a fortune publishing these beautiful works of art.

In awe

Wow Ian,you are just too kind.Unfortunately I am a better photographer than a businessman and truly hate the financial part of this.I am in the public eye since 1996,sold some photos but others made much more money on me than I ever see. Thanks for looking.

Thank you.My problem is I have just too many photos to show and what you see here (or at my website) is just a tiny fraction of my work.It is hard to pick what to post,90% of my photos will never be seen by anybody.Do you want to help me and tell me what would you like me to post?
