I wear eyeglasses all the time and have a problem using the BBF with them on, they always are in the way, does anyone have any ideas how to work around this problem?

Nikon, as well as other manufacturers, make eyecups that are not huge and offer a little relief. I use the DK-19 on a couple of my bodies, but it is body specific.

Do you know if the eyecup would make it easier to access the BBF on a Nikon D7100? My finger doesn't fit between the glasses and the button.

What is the problem? I have worn glasses since age 16 and have never had a problem with the viewfinder. The standard eyepiece cover in new Nikins is admittedly by Nikon, a terrible design. After replacing mine times, I gave up. I do have a large cup one for use when shooting grandkids sports and I don't wear my glasses then. The diopter adjustment works fine for me.

The eyecups are model specific and the one I mentioned does not fit the D7100. Maybe somebody has experience with this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/840729-REG/Vello_EPPN_DK23_Padded_Eyepiece_for.html

I am assuming that you are using your thumb...maybe you can modify your hold a bit.

I tried one of the big hokey Hoodman cups on my D7100, but it was easily knocked off.

I've worn eyeglasses for most of my life, and I don't understand your problem. Not trying to be snarky, I simply do not understand. Whether using manual focus SLRs or autofocus SLRs / DSLRs, my glasses never get in the way. Which is your dominant eye? Which buttons do you use? My left eye is dominant, but I can also use my right eye without problems. I have never had a problem with BBF on Canon cameras, but since the camera is doing the focusing, it shouldn't be a problem. Even with manual focus and focus confirmation - even on old real manual focus lenses - it seems to be fine.

Could there be another problem? Can you clarify your difficulties a little please?

You didn't mention what camera. I believe with many you can choose a different button, on the back or front.

Not the viewfinder, the button on back when you want to use BBF: back button focusing. The location of the only button available on my Canon T3i for back button focus meant that I left thumb knuckle smudges on my prescription eyeglasses every time I used it

See his earlier clarification "Nikon D7100... My finger doesn't fit between the glasses and the button."

The OP also referenced being unable to put his finger between his glasses and the camera. That is why I mentioned I assumed he was using his thumb. I wear glasses as well and have used BBF on my D7100 with no issues, but that is my take.

Interesting. I've just picked up my T3i, which has an adapted (Ed Mika) FDn 135mm f/2.0 lens on it at the moment, set to BBF, and I can use either eye and achieve focus confirmation without my glasses getting any marks on them. I don't have that problem with any of my other cameras or lenses either, Zenit E, AE-1, T90, Contax, P&S, 80D or whatever. Could this be a simple technique problem? It seems confusing to me.

k40, yes, my first though was that I didn't see a problem either.
BUT, I'm guessing you use your LEFT eye on the viewfinder? That would put part of your face over the BBF button in front to your glasses.
My question is, why do you have a need to use the BBF? Yes, I know all the pros and cons and there is little that can't just be done with the 1/2 press of the shutter button. Or if you MUST BBF train yourself to use your right eye.
I personally miss to many shots using the BBF button went shooting extremely fast action very quickly.
Anyway, good luck with whatever you choose to do!

I have that eyepiece for my D7100 and have found that your eye is a little further away from the back of the camera. I also use my left & right eye with BBF and eyeglasses with no problems.
Hope this helps
Steve

Can you not program the Fn button to do the same thing? (FBF)
