Found a new camera store on internet located in N.J. called Abe' s of Maine. Need your opinion about this company. According to the website has been around since 1979 and is cheaper than B&H on Camera Equipment. My other son wants to spend over $10,000 on Camera Equipment and found a Sony a7rii for $500.00 cheaper at Abe's vs B&H. I know the old saying you pay for what you get. Abe's is also selling a 6 year drop replacement policy 100% $599.99 Sounds too good to be true. This is wht l am asking before he spends his hard earn cash and gets what he pays for!

bnsf, I always buy and bought my equipment either from B&H (70%) or Adorama (30%). I also use B&H or Keh for used equipment. STAY AWAY from Abe's. Actually my suggestion for your son will be buy first a body only and a good 55 mm lens and then, according to your son's needs start adding other lenses to cover his photographic needs. However I would strongly recommend him to buy just a couple of lenses initially before spending all his budget at once, that will most probably result in a couple of lenses to be used as "book ends" as oppose to camera lens.

I would question my son's decision to spend 10K on camera stuff. Unless of course he is making a living and supporting his obligations through photography. If that's the case he surely does not need any purchasing advise from anyone on this site.

The reason that Abe's is cheaper than B&H is because they sell GRAY MARKET equipment. If your talking Nikon, the gray market Nikon camera's Abe's sells cannot be repaired by Nikon in the US. If it requires warranty service you will have to send it to the country of origin. For example, if Abe's gets their Nikon's from India, then, if warranty service is required, you would have to send it to India for repair. Abe's may offer warranty service on their own, not sure about that.
Bottom line, Abe's does not have a good reputation. Is it really a place you want to drop $10,000.00? B&H used to offer drop policies, they may still. You better read that 6 year drop policy REALLY, REALLY, CLOSE before you buy.

Here's another vote for anywhere but Abe's of Maine.

"Run, Forrest, Run!".

I've dealt with Roberts, KEH, and B&H. Good reputations and I've not been disappointed.

I got screwed by Honest Abe in the 80's and it left a sour taste on my tongue that I still can taste to this day. I've had great experience with B&H for the past 30 years.

I've used B&H, Adorama, Roberts, Cameta, KEH (for used), and Amazon and have never had a bad experience. Customer service in all has been phenomenal. I've purchased 4 used lenses from ebay. I ask lots of questions of the seller before bidding. I've acquired great lenses for anywhere from 50-75% of new price

Buyer beware I bought a nikkor 200-500 from them a couple months back I did no research on them I suggest you do before you purchase let me tell you my experience with them I found an ad for the nikkor 200-500. for $1069 I read the ad thoroughly sounded like a good deal again buyer be aware The next day I got a Email from them asking me to contact them immediately The contact name was Jeff so I call Jeff and Jeff informed me that the lens I bought is coming with no Len caps no tripod collar No lens hood Jeff informed me for another $400 I could have all he said it does not come with the lens I drop the $400 I could’ve bought the lens anywhere including the camera store across the street I am Immediately called my Nikon rap He informed me that all these assessor comes with the lens........ ugh The lens came as promised but the box had been opened under further inspection it turned out to be gray market I don’t necessarily have a problem with this if it needs to be worked on I have a third-party that specializes in Nikon lenses do your research online I found out that Jeff is a very popular man ..... 375 time There are complain about his business practice and The Better Business Bureau in their town had 31 complaints that are not resolved The best adevice I can give you is the deal with a reputable online camera store like B&h Do your online research make your decisions based on that I will never do business with them because of their bait and switch tactics if it’s too good to be true it probably is
