The oldest child has been complaining about the boredom plaguing her summer vacation, so we took a roadtrip to Gettysburg this weekend. The burden of having a parent who is both a history and photo enthusiast. Here are a few shots from the battlefield, I may have overdone it a little in post processing.

Great pics. One of my big frustrations when I was a child was having parents who had no interest in history. We lived in southern Pennsylvania within short driving distance of Gettysburg, but never did any sightseeing. I had to go the Walter Reed hospital once in D.C., and the only "landmark" my father went by was a baseball stadium. Your kids will appreciate those trips all of their lives.

I visited several times as a child and went again last autumn with my daughter and her family as a homeschool field trip. So much history!

Very nice set. And I don't find them to be over processed.

Well done series, I have enjoyed history starting in high school.

Good road trip. Your images bring back my memories of how I felt looking over all the monuments and their history during my first visit as a high schooler.

They look great. Hopefully the boredom resolved and wasn't fatal!

Great shots.

I understand that particular interests skip a generation usually. Your grandkids will appreciate it.

"Yes, that is your great x4 grandfather's name on the monument." My prod to each of my two kids at about 10 years apart.

Nice photos. The last is taken on the west side of the battlefield. This is basically the starting point for Pickett's fateful charge against Union positions, undertaken on July 3.

Thank you everyone for the positive comments. She did survive the trip and I doubt there will be any complaints of boredom for a few days at least!

Nice photos. The last time we were there, my wife and I stood where Pickett's Charge started. From that vantage point, you could see how valiant, but how futile the charge was. All uphill, open ground, fired upon by three sides. It was a wonder that any survived. Also stood where the boys from Maine under Chamberlain stood their ground at the extreme edge of the Union line. Unbelievable feat of courage with a bayonet charge at the end.

Brave men all. Thanks for the reminder.
