I saw this online.

"Hey, kids! Don't take a chance playing with fireworks. Let the adults who have been drinking all day set them off."

Absolutely. I remember one Fourth of July when an adult with a few in him dropped the m-80 and threw the match. Ps, he was a police captain.

Since I was about the only one who had a big backyard, I used to host Fourth of July fireworks displays for my "Grateful Dead crowd." When inviting someone new to join the merriment, I'd tell them, "We drink gallons of beer all afternoon, dabble in recreational pharmaceutics and then when it's dark and we're all stumbling around and fairly senseless, I hand everyone some fireworks and BIC lighters. What could possibly go wrong?"

Something like that happened to my sister-in-law. She had a big 4th party. And we put fireworks all over the back yard. But before we got totally plastered, we remembered to water down all the ground level plants so that nothing would burn. We neglected to water the 40 foot Monterey Pine's upper branches. You guessed. The entire top of the tree caught fire. It was like a giant torch.

So true. A fellow that worked with me was handing out a handful of sparklers to his young kids, nieces and nephews. One of them came up to him and touched their light sparkler to the bundle of them he was holding in his fist. They touched right at the base of his hand at his thumb and forefinger. Within an instant he had a fizzing blaze of sprinklers burning in his hand along with a long and painful rehabilitation and several skin grafts.
