My camera club has a new assignment every month. This month we are to have someone pick a color and take a picture using a subject of that color. Additionally, the photo's story should reflect the emotion associated with that color. IE blue= cool, cerebral, etc. red = excitement, hot, tension, etc.

SO What is the emotion associated with the color amber? I think my color picker threw me a fastball down and in.

Maybe friendship and the emotions that go with that.

Amber is a good one. Wisdom, magical, cheerful, protective, mystical, warm. Amber comes in 4 colors, besides yellow it is also found in RBG, red, blue and green.

The stone amber comes in many colors, from light yellow to dark brown. This may significantly increase your options. Furthermore, since amber is fossilized resin, you may try photographing some resin.

Would, perhaps, the intent of the assignment be for you to go out on your own and learn about the color amber without obtaining your information from photographers? Read a book on the color, even a book on symbols and mysticism with color, check a color wheel, think about the assignment and the subject and create your own wonderful image.

Thanks viathelens: Yes, That was my intent. When I gave the assignment to the club, I did not expect to get "foisted on my own pitard". I was thinking more about primary colors when I gave the assignment. My normal sources are rather complete about the emotional response to primary colors but relatively silent about the "in betweens". My color picker obviously was a bit more devious than I gave them credit for.

When I was young I met a girl by the name of Amber. She really excited me!
I guess I was not her type.

Warm, rich, inviting come to mind. The ring worn by someone who has completed the pilgrimage to Mecca (hadji) is often an agate which is amber in color. Golden hour has its amber moments as well. The color amber sits between yellow and orange on the color wheel.

I approve of your method of reaching out to fellow photographers as part of your research on this. Where else might you find a source that might have viewed the color as part of photography. If you cannot ask here, then where?

Amber is the name of a model I used once for some artistic nudes. Would that count?

Amber held the mosquitos that contained the blood of dinosaurs that provided the DNA that the scientists used to clone the animals in Jurassic Park. So think big.
