Taking a two week road trip on Route 66 from Chicago to L.A. Looking for suggestions from anyone who has done the trip for stops along the way and any must see photo ops!
Tucumcari, NM has some interesting, past their prime photo ops. Also, the La Posada Hotel in Winslow AZ is a trip back in time and worthy of a visit plus there is that "corner" made famous in that song.
Take 66 from Ash Fork to Kingman. Hardly any traffic and it is the original road. Seligman has become a tourist stop but worth seeing. Be sure and stop in Peach Springs for a soda pop.

Winslow & Holbrook, AZ Albuquerque, NM are definite stops
Thank you all for your suggestions! Should be a great trip!
Seligman, AZ (welcome to 1958); Hackberry, AZ (the service station, grocery store)--Ask permission and check around on their storage lot; and Oatman, AZ--Be there before 5:00 p.m. because the burros all go back into the desert. How about those scenics around Oatman? Carry a large memory card for your camera. Don't be in a hurry.
Hi Barn Owl,
Thanks for your suggestions. Really looking forward to the ride over Sitgreaves Pass into Oatman. A friend told me about that and the burros. Taking a bunch of cards!!

That is so cool! Do you have any idea when those were installed? I had to (yes "had to") leave Arizona about 13 years ago and don't recall seeing them while I was there.

Somewhere around 2000 I think
Stay in Holbrook, AZ and visit the Petrified Forest NP, just down the road outside of town. Lots of famous 66 motels in Holbrook.
