I bought this lens yesterday. It was a brand new kit lens (which the buyer of the camera didn't want), from a local camera store. The price was great ($799.00 Cdn.) and with the usual five year warranty.

In four days I will be in Newfoundland and will bring this lens, with a handful of my other lenses. In September I will be travelling to Austria and plan taking only one lens and it will be the new Nikon 24-120mm with my D5.

I am curious if you own this lens, are you happy with it?

Harold

I would be interested in the replies you get because I have kicked this lens around for my FX camera too.

I like it on a crop sensor for shooting kids soccer and basketball. Basically covers my needed focal lengths and is easy to handle. My 24-70 was not quite long enough and the 70-200, besides being heavy, was not short enough.

Use it on an 810 with very good results

My most used lens on the D810.
I have a 24-70 too, but prefer the reach of the 24-120.
I have several 3x5 foot prints on the wall at work done with the 24-120 and 24-70 and it’s hard to see much of a difference.
I think you’ll like it!
Have a great trip and post lots of images!

Though I don't have that lens it is on my list of 'wanna haves'. I have seen an incredible number of of excellent images taken with it including on the Nikon D850. An acquaintance uses the 24-120 f4 G VR along with a Nikon D4 on a regular basis. The images are stunning. I'm sure you will be happy with it on a D5.

I bought mine used more than two years ago from a UHH member. I'm quite pleased with the lens. It makes a great all around lens for travel, family, etc. When I purchased the lens I was a little concerned about it only being an f/4 but that has not turned out to be an issue for the way I use the lens. For me, it's short length and moderate weight is a plus as well. I had it on my D90 and now use it on a D500. Just for some background, I am very much an amateur but have had several of my images published in model airplane magazines. I also have and use the following Nikon lenses: f/2.8 70-200, f/4.5 80-400, f2.8 16-80, a nifty fifty and the 18-105 kit lens that came with my D90.

I have had it on my D750 for almost 2 years. Due to the 24mm wide angle, it can cut down the number of lenses I carry. Now I carry only this lens plus my Tamaron 150-600mm. I have taken some very clear photos with it and the VR is great.
You should be very happy with this lens. At 24mm there is a very slight vignetting which you can override with the camera settings. Good luck and happy snapping.

I do have this lens. And I have been happy with it....for the most part. I use it primarily for landscape. Having just purchased the D850 there is word on the street that this lens will not hold up well on a high MP camera. I have just embarked on a study of all the 24-70mm lens to look for a lens that will offer better edge sharpness. The winner was Tamron G2 with a tap console to fine tune it. All this said, I still think it's a very good lens especially if you crop a bit for those softer edges...if they matter.

Had to chuckle about the informed "word on the street."

FWIW, I have seen many images taken with this lens mounted on a D850. When used for landscapes with an f stop in the f11-f16 range the edges kind of don't matter. However the OP informs the use will be on a D5 and for that this will get the job done. In spades

I also own the D850. Good to know. I will stick to the D5 or my D750, when I use this lens.

Let me know what your view are on this lens, with your wonderful D850.

Here are two reviews, the first is of the 24-120 lens. The second is the D850 with many images through out taken with the 24-120 including the very first one.

Very good. A bit more distortion on the wide end than I like, but you can correct this in the camera or in PP if it bothers you. I had to make a slight adjustment in the focus fine tuning with mine (to +3) on my D810. I have lenses that I consider to be a bit sharper, but none more convenient.
