I have one and like almost everything about it except for several exceptions.

The shutter is extremely loud even in the quite modes. I prefer the shutter sound of the D500. Yes there is a complete silent mode but it is in live view only, which is my second issue.

Auto focus is so slow in live view its only useful for stationary subjects.

Third is the noise. Although images are much cleaner than my D500, its a step backward form the D810 and D800E (had both).

Not deal breakers...with all the prerelease hype I expected better; still its the best camera I have owned.

I don't do video and have never tried it so I can't comment.

Interesting your experience is quite different then mine with these cameras, but then it depends on type lighting and subject matter your shooting. for the noise in aatrophotogfaphy I found the d800e good till ISO 3200, the d810 good till 6400, and the d850 good till 12800. Also find the dark recovery in shadows richer and cleaner at ISO 64, the colors are far better, in shadow recovery no more ugly magenta cast, also find the LCD live view to be much better incrementally better then previous models and much easier for critical focusing..
I find the highlight recovery much better then the d500.
I can see the shutter being a bit loud but I like the sound of it, though it could scare off wildlife, just as the other models, love the silent shutter for tripod use.
I agree with you though not perfect it is by far best camera I have owned.
But what is perfect we are still getting three year old technology and always will, if this was my last camera ever I would be happy with it.
Happy shooting!!
Still looking forward to see what a d850A could do.

I have had a D850 for about 3 months. It is a fine camera, and I'm glad to have it, but for most jobs, I still reach for the D810. There are several intriguing new functions, but I do not like some of the changes in control locations, and only half of the important buttons and controls received lighting. A used SB-400 replaced the pop-up flash for emergencies, but not providing a focus assist light on a camera designed for low light situations is a big design miss.
Much has been said about the increased resolution, but a "contact print" is only about an inch and a half larger in each dimension than one from a D810. Also...Nikon has been telling us for 15 years or so that magnesium alloy bodies were the best way to go. We'll have to see if the composite body is now suddenly the way to go.
It's a nice camera. I'll keep mine. But I don't see it as the revolutionary jump that many others do.
