I've tried many different camera straps. Of the ones I've tried the strap that comes closest to meeting my needs is made by Peak Design. The system they use to shorten or lengthen the strap is the easiest and quickest I have come across (it can be done with one hand with the camera still around your neck). Additionally, they have developed a system for attaching the camera body to the strap that allows you to move the strap from one camera to another with ease. If you use two cameras like I do this is a very nice feature.

Peak design slide. Hook to the bottom and side lug of camera. Camera doesn’t move around. I carry a Nikon D810 with batter grip and 80-200 2.8 with no problems.

German Sun-sniper seems to be making really great products. Here's the link to their B&H selection: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=sun-sniper%20camera%20strap&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ps

I love my Cotton Carrier for birding. My usual birding set up is a Nikon D500 with a 300mm prime and 1.4x converter. I have not tried it with an 80-400 lens. Very comfortable to wear and it will keep your camera and lens secure and not swinging around as you hike.

I have researched this to death! I am very short and skinny and am looking for a camera strap that can 1) adjust short enough to where the camera's long lens (100-400 Leica on my Lumix GX8) isn't down to my mid-thigh and 2) doesn't swing out and hit me while on long hikes. (I tried the front back-pack style and the camera swings out annoyingly with every step.) and 3) Is super-comfortable on my little bony neck and shoulder. I'm also not thrilled with the idea of using my tripod mount for the attachment, though I've never tried it. Don't have a budget. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

If you don't want a neck strap (I don't like them) then get a Black Rapid strap. Most comfortable way to carry a camera.

There are many, many, good companies out there making camera straps. For long or heavy equipment I own and use the original Black Rapid strap. It is adjustable, has a robust shoulder pad, within the shoulder pad you can store memory cards and spare camera batteries. Get the one with a small secondary strap that will keep the shoulder pad in place. Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

Peak Design Slide Lite; the regular Slide is thicker for heavier cameras. I use Lite on all my cameras, including D850 with 24-70 f2.8 VR attached. Comfortable, easy on and off camera, and has two quick-pull adjusters. The hand strap, called Clutch, works great too.

Camera/lens is carried in a large case that straps to your body - I like Tamrac - the case must have attachment points. In the photo I have used an extra long belt around my mid-section and a shoulder harness used for fishing. The camera/lens does not swing around and is safe from damage in a casing - but is a little slower to draw out for use. - - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Big-Fish-Sea-Fishing-Shoulder-Harness-Distributing-Load-Preventing-Sprains-Hot/282347232103?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D52476%26meid%3D5dd0856f2af144a8afc87131ae12de79%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D132317970943%26itm%3D282347232103&_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850

I have always used an "around the neck strap." UNTIL... I found the "Black Rapid" strap that goes over the shoulder and hangs down. Now, no more neck aches. I can carry my camera around all day without any shoulder or neck pain. Oh, and it is very unobtrusive, not like a harness.

This strap may meet your needs. Search for “peak design camera strap” and one of theirs allows you to adjust the length and connect to your camera several ways. I use a lumalabs strap and won’t give it up for the moon... you can search for it “https://luma-labs.com“, but am not sure if they offer different ways to connect to your camera. I use the tripod mount that fits my tripod and the place where the original neck strap normally hooks up. If you email them with your requirements they should help you figure out if their strap will work for you. I have found that theirs is the best for me and at 74 years old I can still carry my Nikon D810 with a Nikon 28-300 zoom lens most places breakfast to dinner in the world. Good luck in your hunt....
