Darkening or lightening the corners of an image. Darkening is similar to what many lenses do automatically. Lightening is great when you have a light image and want the corners to fade to white. These two effects can be applied after you crop.
Other forms of vignetting involve sharpening the center and letting the corners and edges go soft, you can also fade color and/or contrast - all of which help bring attention to the main subject. These effects are best applied with subtlety and moderation for best results.

You've gotten your answer, and while ine=deed there is no such thing as a stupid question there is such a thing as a stupid title...perhaps next time something more descriptive than "Question?" would be more sensible...

Absolutely true!
But a title somewhat less moronic than a generic single word would make it easier on those of us who do indeed try to help others.

Vignetting is properly described by Gene51, as always. It is an effective post processing technique to focus the viewer's eyed toward the center of the frame where the subject is usually located. In addition, it can be a condition created at capture (exposure) when something like a lens hood or filter ring causes dark shading corners of the image. Vignetting also can be due to an optical deficiency of a lens, creating a light fall off and or distinct loss of corner sharpness, typically at its largest (wide open) apertures.
Think of your eyesight view while looking through cheap binoculars or too small eyeglass frames, or cupping your hands around the sides of your eyes.
