Chasing Kites

The swallow tail kites have returned to Ocala FL. I have been trying to get a good picture of one since we moved here last year. Drove past a field not too far from the house the other day and noticed at least 20 birds soaring and skimming the ground at times. Did not have my long lens with me but my walk around 70-300 f5.6. did catch a couple when cropped way down. Not great but a start. the last photo is a mississippi kite i think. The group of birds flying over the field seemed to be a mixture of both types.

I love watching these birds. I have one that visits my backyard occasionally. Nice pictures.

Nice set. Too bad you didn't have your long lens at hand.

Yes, we have them around here every year, and they are big birds. Maybe a 4 foot wingspan. I wish I could find out where they are nesting...........I also have not been able to get an image of one. But yours is good!

Thank you. From the limited research i have done, their nest would be very high. The adults feed on insects while inflight. They will also go for frogs, lizards to take to their young.
